Title: Discuss the character: Tokugawa Ieyasu
Description: TADAKAAAAAAAATSU!

Well for Thursday, I decided to do our favorite kiddy unifier, Ieyasu! Plus I know he's got some lovin' around here. :P

I like Ieyasu, he's hilarious to watch sometimes. I wish he wasn't as reliant on Hondam sometimes, but it's understandable as to why he is. I think all of us can see why that is haha.

His SB2H incarnation was pretty fun. Loved getting to ride on Hondam! It was pure chaos. I'm just hoping SB3 expands him a bit more in the moveset department.

Story wise, I want him to have one more person added to his roster (which if I had to guess, will probably be Hanzo or Naomasa). I'd honestly be fine with either, and I suppose since Hanzo is so overdone, Naomasa would be who I'm cheering for the most haha.

Discuss.

Oh the skill where he summons tadakatsu and you ride on him was fun to use. And i kinda like the whole idea of spamming the cannon while u r riding on tadakatsu. Kinda reminds me of controlling an artillery.

Nothing without the Gundam. Cloned moveset=fail. Cloned Basara=Fail. Takechiyo needs to grow up and get his own moveset. The weapon looks cool though.

For now, I had to pick 2. Because he's just too dependent of Tadakatsu.

But, COME ON, Capcom, you CAN make him grow out of his dependent role and be a bad ass on his own! And stop that 'getting kidnapped' stitch already! I got sick of it, seeing that it's a very silly and embarrassing stitch that should NEVER be touched... especially on my favorites.

Yeah, I got a favoritism running, got a problem with that?

Ieyasu is alright with me, though I would like to see him develop in more ways than one.

After all, even the likes of Daisaku in Giant Robo was allowed to become competent. Ieyasu's ready to grow up at least some what.

Of course...like I said, I'm also prepared for the notion that once he DOES grow up, he's probably going to be just as deliciously evil as the other two unifiers. That could be funny to see as well.

I have this theory about the kidnapping ninjas... What if...

The ninja squad that constantly kidnaps Ieyasu... turns out to be under Hanzou? This also includes the SB2 version.

Reasoning is that unlike Tadakatsu who does everything in order, Hanzou is a more careful man. He thinks Ieyasu is not ready for battle. But since Ieyasu was... TOO EAGER... he had no choice but to act on his own: He kidnaps Ieyasu and gives him to another force so Ieyasu can understand the horrors of war and hopes that he either matures before he tackles the world or just gives up (e.g: Stop being so impulsive and dependant on Tadakatsu). This also doubles as a test to Tadakatsu's prowess and his men's loyalty.

If Hanzou is not a probable candidate, then I would think this could be Momochi Sandayu (head of Iga clan) in works. He allied with Ieyasu, but hopes to fix his dependency and stubbornness, so he sent out those ninjas to do the job.

What do you think about this theory? Likely?

That's actually a rather plausible plot twist there. Thing is, is that something Sengoku Basara would do? I don't think it would be, since it's more about the style than the plot..at least, seems that way to me.

I like the theory as well, but I have to agree with L_N on that.

Story purposes are usually expanded and touched upon more so in the mangas and CD dramas (although the actual games do have some story).

That would be an interesting plot twist though, assuming Hanzo (as he seems more likely) is to be included in SB3.

I dunno...when BASARA wants to, it can have very good, character-driven narratives in game, as well. The whole Hideyoshi-KG storyline is an example of this, as well as Oichi and Motochika's storylines in HEROES.

I'd like to believe that NJB may be on to something, and that the reason they've been putting Ieyasu through these random things of silliness is to basically see how we, the players, see his evolution through the games, both as a character, and as a unifier.

Maybe it won't involve Hanzou or some other new character instigating these kidnappings for some reason, but I would like to believe that by SB3, we may be treated to a Ieyasu that has FINALLY learned the value of patience. And quite possibly, by the time Nobunaga and Hideyoshi finally DO recognize what's going on with him, it may be too late...

...I still have fantasies of seeing Ieyasu being a sort of Dr. Eggman/Master Mold combo, who then seeks to rule the lands with the power of a Mass-Produced Tadakatsu army. :D
