Title: Discuss the character: Katakura Kojuurou
Description: Masamune's Right Hand Man

Wow I'm surprised he didn't have a topic already.

Anywho, Kojuurou is alright with me. I know he's a pretty popular character from what I've seen, but I can't really say he's in my "top" list of favorites, though I enjoy his character.

His story in Heroes was nicely done, in my opinion. I must admit I saw the "super" mode thing coming haha. It kinda reminded me of the old DBZ days for some odd reason.

Hisahide portrayed his role very well as I should also add. It's nice to see a foe be able to literally bring the Masamune clan to the lengths he did. It was nice to know that even Masamune's side could take a big bump as far as the story went. Maybe that's just me though? I know Masamune (and Kojuurou) are pretty popular.

Overall he's a good character, good story and he's got a decent moveset.

He's a perfect addition to the Date army. Before that, Masamune was always alone in both SW & SB1, so when I heard he's added in SB2 albeit as just an NPC, I can say "you've finally come".

Oh, and also in SBX, he has a nice moveset that I'm considering maining him. :)

One of the better-added new additions. Kojyuuro just defines loyalty, and I love that. And by loyalty, I mean a good, genuine one, not blind one like Noh's. That's a good one.

Now, while it's not about this BASARA, but I wish Kojyuuro would come up to the Musou series and smack KOEI Masamune silly for his antics and grow up to be a more respected lord (not one who would sully himself by becoming a lapdog of someone else, like Orochi)

I like his gangster fighting style. XD
Oh and morikawa voicing him is another nice addition to the basara seiyu cast.

His taunt is awesome, great sword moveset, great gangster moveset, fast, good damage and range, great specials, cool personality, cool lord, what doesn't he have?

He's definitely my favorite out of the entire series (if not, of all time). I didn't care about SB too much until this guy was introduced in Heroes. I am fond of him in every aspect, I honestly don't think that Kojuro has a single flaw.

In terms of voice acting and personality, Toshiyuki Morikawa. I've always been a fan of his voice acting as he also voices for Soul Calibur's Mitsurugi, Tekken's Kazuya, and Street Fighter's Ryu. In terms of personality, Kojuro is definitely traditional. His unbending and relentless loyalty is completely realistic considering his position and situation, to the point he's willing to kill himself in order to redeem himself for turning his blade on Masamune. And that whole berserk complex he's got going (which the game calls Gokusatsu; Moonless Slaughter) definitely gave him a very vivid personality. It just made my day to see him go berserk on Kotaro Fuuma

In terms of moveset, Kojuuro is perhaps the real swordsman of the cast (I wouldn't consider Musashi a swordsman in this game for obvious reasons, same goes for Date). From the way he cuts, to the way he seals his blade, to the way he cleans the blood of his sword after an attack, Kojuuro is pretty damn traditional. He moves with a unique and distinct traditional grace, the type of grace seen in someone who has truly mastered their craft. In that sense, he brings some realism in that his attacks, movements, and gestures really do resemble Kenjutsu and Iaido. And, his animations are just great. He also has some of the coolest moves I've ever seen, specifically his Oboro Zangetsu move where he falls to his knees and seals his blade in the middle of battle to meditate in which he'll circle his opponent to cut them down once they come within distance.

Also, his costumes are a nice touch. The animation for his trench coat is pretty cool. I also love his alternate ronin costume.

All in all, Kojuro is my favorite out of the cast. He's also the character I rely on most in VS mode when I play against my friends. Even beat my friend's Ranmaru with him (which is much...much...MUCH harder than it sounds. My friend is extraordinarily talented with Ranmaru). Second to him is Matsu and Hideyoshi, followed closely by Kenshin and Noh.

Also, referring to BlackKite's post, I haven't played SBX yet but Kojuuro doesn't look that great to be honest. He seems like a low-tier character. I've only seen 2 match videos of him (both of which ended in his defeat), but he doesn't seem like a very strong character. No abusable pokes, no projectile, it's pretty easy for characters like Oichi to keep him away. Though that means nothing, I'd use him anyway.

What more can be said? This guy just oozes awesome, even more than his boss. :D

Also, it's kinda funny how Masamune basically has Dante's mannerisms as English speakers are familiar with, while Kojuuro is both voiced by Dante's seiyuu in the anime, as well as maintains Dante's "Japanese" attitude (he's much more mellow in the Japanese translation of the scripts).
