Title: Compare WO series to SW series - SW2 Characters
Description: Ieyasu Tokugawa - Better/Worse than SW

Mr.Honda - July 19, 2008 06:17 PM (GMT)
This topic is to discuss the SW characters and whether you think they improved or not when making the transition to the Warriors Orochi series. This topic will dicuss those SW characters who are listed in the "SW2" roster in WO2 (SW series has been divided into the WO2 groups for balance)

State your reasons why you think they improved or not, don't just post a simple "Yea, he/she improved" or "No, he/she got worse"

Both Warriors Orochi games are included so feel free to base your opinions on either of those games. (Since WO2 has not released outside of Japan yet, feel free to add to your thoughts later if your opinions change after playing the sequel).

We will start by getting everyone's thought on:

1 - Mitsunari Ishida
2 - Nene
3 - Tadakatsu Honda
4 - Ina
5 - Ranmaru Mori
6 - Musashi Miyamoto
7 - Nouhime
8 - Hanzo Hattori
9 - Nagamasa Azai
10 - Hideyoshi Toyotomi
11 - Yoshimoto Imagawa
12 - Ieyasu Tokugawa

Next week, the Moderating staff will edit the character name in the topic description and post a new character from SW2 to discuss.

If you would like to discuss characters that have already been posted, that is fine. The list of characters will be updated in the first post to help keep track of the discussion.

LittleDragonZ - July 19, 2008 07:37 PM (GMT)
From a SW2 to WO point of view he's been dramatically improved. His R1 and WO's abilities such as Agility and Multi really help him out, especially with his C4. But from what I've heard about WO2, he's gone back downhill.

Samurai Master - July 19, 2008 08:24 PM (GMT)
Mitsunari i think is the most Improved character from SW to WO. His R1 is just the best i htink in WO it kills hordes of enemies and also his speed helps him about sometimes. His personality in this one is quite funny he is still arragont but this time he helps a new person like him to defeat Orochi. When his weapon gets upgraded it also becomes really good.He became one of the most used characters that i use with in WO. :D

Fayt - July 19, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
I think it's fair to say Mitsunari is one of the most improved broken from SW.

From having a rather useless mine setting and activating to a wide range burst from his fan with little Musou...the difference in incredible. Even with him going in what I believe is the inferior class, SPD, I still find him a much improved character.

I didn’t like his voice actor in Warriors Orochi as much though, I felt his VA in SW2 was outstanding, I do hope that has returned. Personality wise though not much has changed…which is good, I love the arrogance he has.

Of course, I don't know anything about WO2 yet to comment on that, LDZ says he is not as good anymore (disappointing, but he needed to get nerfed a bit if that is true).

Rydain - July 19, 2008 09:51 PM (GMT)
I haven't gotten to Mitsunari in SW2, so I can't really compare him. I will say that his R1 + forward blasts were nerfed in WO2. They do far less damage and won't even stun officers. His C4 still hurts a lot, though.

King Of Wei - July 19, 2008 10:20 PM (GMT)
I think everyone agrees that he has improved immensely. His R1 is just the best R1 int he game. His double jump makes him go faster. His move set is bad but who cares when you got that R1 move. ;)

TrueMusou4432 - July 21, 2008 02:00 PM (GMT)
He's great compared to his SW2(and XL version).R1 is great for both officers and troops. All of his charge attacks are good when you power up his weapon just like almost every other characters in the game.In WO2 his R1 got nerfed as it dosen't flinch officers anymore and dosen't do much damage either(even to troops).Though he's still good with his other charge attacks.

Jasonic - July 22, 2008 02:39 AM (GMT)
He was good in SW2, but nothing compared to him in WO. Its of cource the R1 that defines him the most. Completly spamable and hardly deplets the musou at all. He is very fast and totally one of the best in the game.
Very good improvement in WO, curious if he is any different in WO2

GoW - July 22, 2008 12:39 PM (GMT)
Mitsunari is still very defensive in WO as he is in SW2. The only thing that holds him back in SW is his special(s). Both of his R1s in WO are defensive just like his MS overall is supposed to be. Blasts from his fan, and arrow cover, very defensive minded character, he's meant to never be touched.

I consider him equal to his SW2 appearance, but thats just me.

LittleDragonZ - July 23, 2008 08:45 PM (GMT)
Good point there, GoW. I can see why his C4 is so fast now.

Seriously though, his game style consists of running forward and tapping R1 and being constantly on the move whilst dispatching unexpected units with his C4 also.

Qing Long - July 23, 2008 10:44 PM (GMT)
Yes, Mitsunari has improved a lot in WO with his awesome R1 (So powerfull O_O !!!) His R1 is abused compared to others characters. XD

In add, he grows so fast too, and has others moveset improvement too ^^

However, in SW2, he is already a good character to play, even if he's not that powerfull.

Jasonic - July 25, 2008 11:55 PM (GMT)
Nene

I dont really remember, but Im pretty sure you cant use the character change for her in WO  . So that for me, pretty much says she is better in SW2, for changing into any character she wants, of cource that comes with limits, but its fun.

TrueMusou4432 - July 26, 2008 12:57 AM (GMT)
Story Wise:She dosen't really play any part AT ALL.She leads a resistance force that is defeated and joins Wei and that's it.

Gameplay Wise:She stronger of course, but not as fun as she is in SW2XL.I loved the Transforming ability was one of my favorite skills. The clones in here are one less but come out much faster.

Overall:Not much of a story and isn't much fun as she was in SW2XL.More powerful but not much fun.Not much else to say here.

Xalfrea - July 26, 2008 12:59 AM (GMT)
Mitsunari

Gameplay Wise
In SW2, Mitsunari was a good all around character, his moveset was good around crowd control and at the same time, good against officer duels. In WO that was carried over, but dang... his uber R1 was spammable that you wouldn't care about his moveset.

Personality Wise
Mitsunari is still the same jack-%$# as he is in SW2, but his friendship with Cao Pit is verrry interesting indeed. Too bad that was never carried over in WO2.

Nene
Gameplay Wise
Not really liking it that much in WO2. In SW2, one of the best things to do was "Shadow Clone Jutsu!", then transform. But in WO2, they didn't add transforming, and that was a huge loss for me when playing Nene.

Personality Wise
Not much to say. Nene was only in one stage, thats it. All I can say is, she still retains her motherly personality at least.

Encerta - July 26, 2008 02:30 AM (GMT)
Nene

In SW2, her unique ability is to change to any nearby officers. LMAO I would actually think that is really epic. It is a really fun thing to play her in SW2.

In WO, she had 2. One being a slam sort, the other being shadows/ afterimages/ what do you call those. Cough.

Under comparisons, I would definitely prefer SW2's skills/ abilities more. That not only adds entertainment to gameplay, but also it displays the awesome skills of a ninja!
lol But seriously, that skill is awesome to me.

Oblivion94 - July 26, 2008 07:13 AM (GMT)
Mitsunari Ishida
Gameplay Wise
Yeah, I don't really like using Ishida but even I have to say he was broken in MO with his R1, but those days are no more with MO2, nothing else to say about him really

Story Wise
I liked Koei pairing him with Cao Pi, it was a very interesting friendship they had though is it still important in MO2 I wonder?

Nene
Gameplay Wise
Frankly, with Kunoichi's really useful R1, I didn't use Nene much but just like in SW2, she is still deadly with her C1, C3 and C4 although minus one clone, her grab move is fun to use. ^_^

Story Wise
Gah, they killed another story though that one stage was fun, it didn't really show any story for Nene except she commanded her own force that consisted mostly of Toyotomi retainers, I like her dialogue with Mitsunari

Hakumei - July 26, 2008 04:51 PM (GMT)
Nene's pretty broken in WO2 Imho.

SW2 Strengths:
- God-move C1. Double guardbreak with a knockdown stun with wide circular range. You can spam this move over and over as your enemies get back up.
- Solid movelist, except for a relatively unsafe C3.
- Good specials. Doppelganger specials allow her to remain relatively safe against enemy attacks, and morphing special allows her to be pretty versatile.

Summary: Nene's a solid character with one really broken C1. She's got a pretty solid movelist and some good specials.

WO2 Strengths:
- Doppelgangers activate in an instant with R1.
- Unblockable Grapple R1.
- C1
- Can jump cancel most of her combos

Summary: Nene is considerably buffed up. Her doppelgangers now activate in an instant with a touch of the R1 button which makes her a WHOLE lot stronger. She can easily keep up a constant barrage of attacks without ever being touched. Her grapple R1, though a little weak still has its uses. It's an unblockable attack and can easily be used to dart out of crowds. The jump cancel ability for speed characters also help her out alot. She's no longer vulnerable when using her C3 since you can jump right out of it.

Overall, if played correctly, Nene is practically untouchable. I'd say Nene's definitely one of the more stronger characters of WO. Izuna drop FTW!

Mr.Honda - July 30, 2008 01:37 PM (GMT)
I'll comment on both Mitsunari and Nene

Mitsunari

Moveset/Gameplay - Directional R1 (L+R1), nuff said. Other than that, his C3 is about the same and his C4 is improved but again, due to elements system. WO2, he gets hit with the nerf stick and his L+R1 no longer damages officers.

Story/Personality - This one is a draw. He is one of the better characterizations in both SW2 and WO. I can't actually pick which one I like best. His arrogant, smartass attitude makes the transition to WO with no problems. Placing him with Cao Pi in Wei's story made that one of the more enjoyable stories due to their interaction and also with Da Ji.

Nene

Moveset/Gameplay - Nene is a character who benefits from the new elements system, but didn't really need it. C1 & C3 remain her best attacks and she still has her clones and double-jump (Air Dash). Although, sometimes I wish her transform special made it to WO. I would LOL to see her transform into Dong Zhuo

Story/Personality - Talk about taking a back seat. Nene is in 1 stage, period. Considering how nasueating her personality can be at times in SW2, this is not necessarily a bad thing. Stuck in a strange world with a huge enemy force breathing down your neck is not a time/place for dishing out spankings

Tadakatsu Honda
He is by far one of my favorites in WO, his moves are excellent. His C3 is so wide ranged and devores anyone near by. His R1 is pretty good aswell, makes him even more powerful. I really like him in this game because he is not following Ieyasu and constantly saying yes my lord. He takes charge and is truely an epic rival for Lu Bu.

Fayt - July 30, 2008 08:55 PM (GMT)
I have not unlocked Honda Tadakatsu yet in WO to be honest...

But as an opponent, he is tougher then ever, he may be strong in SW, but I felt it has increased even more in WO. Putting him on the same level as Lu Bu has pushed the fear factor for him up a notch I believe.

I have a feeling I would miss his old special in SW2 however where he uses a few swings of his spear saying "I'm Tadakatsu!" and getting a quick Musou boost. With that I always run around with a full Musou gauge in SW2, in WO it replenishes...but yeah I'd feel very strange not having that in WO.
(If I happen to unlock him, I'll compare using him soon enough...)

Mr.Honda - July 30, 2008 09:29 PM (GMT)
Tadakatsu Honda

Moveset/Gameplay - Well, he's one of the strongest attackers in SW2 (the strongest in SW2:XL) so its natural that this would transfer to WO. What I did not expect was for him to be WAY stronger than Lu Bu (in terms of benfitting from elements) and for him to get an R1 that boosts his attack strength, speed and refills life  That alone makes up for his faults and makes him downright broken.

Story/Personality - Making the transition to WO really messes up Tadakatsu's personality. He pretty much is clueless as to where he is, and instead focuses on proving his might to anyone brave enough to challenge him, especially Lu Bu and Orochi. This removes the loyal part of his personality since he really doesn't serve anyone but himself. Who knows how he winds up in Shu's WO2 story, but being reunited with Ieyasu could fix that. Until then, I much prefer his SW2 characterization.

Encerta - July 31, 2008 02:27 AM (GMT)
lol I do know this is a little random but is it just me or.. did anyone notice he is much more skinny that SW2?

Really good point, I found that rather odd too actually.

Tadakatsu right throughout SW2 is the loyal defender of the Tokugawa, and now, he is more like a rebel, initially that was a real shock to the senses for me.

tennoarashi - July 31, 2008 02:41 AM (GMT)
I actually really liked Tadakatsu's transition for not serving anyone, because it signified that he follows his principals and ideals more than anything. He was shown to have a strong sense of ethics and morality in SW2; one could argue it was Tadakatsu himself who inspired Ieyasu to fight for a peaceful future (alongside the guilt Ieyasu felt over those officer deaths in Mikatagahara). It solidifies that if it came down to it, Tadakatsu would stand for what he believes in over simply following Ieyasu.

That being said, it also shows how much Ieyasu potentially needs Tadakatsu - to remind him that following the path that is determined by principal rather than solely focusing on practicality.

TrueMusou4432 - July 31, 2008 02:50 AM (GMT)
Story Wise:He's only in a few stages in WO1,but are in many stages in WO2.I like him better in WO2 than in WO1 and SW.

Gameplay Wise:He's much stronger than his SW2XL counterpart.ALl of his attacks do more damage than in SW2 and his R1 buff is strong as not only does it make him stronger,he heals health.

Overall:He's much better in WO2.The enchant's,abilities, and elemens make him way better than WO1 and MUCH better than his SW2XL version. His C3 and C4 are a real killer.

Xalfrea - July 31, 2008 03:58 AM (GMT)
Tadakatsu

Gameplay Wise

Better than Lu Bu in WO? Definitely. Strong R1? Check. R1 buff? Check. With Lu Bu nerfed, I turned to his SW counterpart instead.

Personality Wise

Ohhkay,... what the heck has he been doing throughout the story? I'm willing to bet though that after the Wu gaiden, the other Gaidens featuring Tadakatsu happened.

I eagerly await to play the Dream Mode stage of Lu Bu, Tadakatsu and Keiji in WO2.

LittleDragonKHM - July 31, 2008 05:13 AM (GMT)
Mitsunari
I guess there ain't much I can add. What need to be said about him, had been said. His R1 rules! (Way better than his R1 in SW2) I spam it most of the time! LOL

Nene
She doesn't seem to be much different from her old self in SW2. Although with the new weapon system in WO and being a speed character, her attacks are stronger and can be executed faster.

Tadakatsu Honda
He already is strong character in SW2. With weapon attribute system in WO, he becomes even stronger. I always like DW5 Lu Bu than SW2 Tadakatsu but I'm sorta like enjoying using him more than Lu Bu in WO.

fledgling phoenix - July 31, 2008 06:27 AM (GMT)
Tadakatsu is almost broken IMO. When i faced Lu Bu, after a couple of times i said: "this guy's turned into a pushover" -_-. But when i faced Tadakatsu in Wu 7X, he wiped the floor with me.

Serious, he's got the best R1 in the game (more attack, more speed and healing). C3 is really powerful, C4 is painful, powerful and has a wide range. His C1 is great for incoming groups or officers. His musou attack covers a wide area.

Oblivion94 - August 3, 2008 07:04 AM (GMT)
Tadakatsu Honda
Gameplay Wise
Meh, he gets a new awesome R1 to play with, gives him a boost too... -_-

Story Wise
He loses the whole loyalty thing and forms his own anonymous army, simply because he is given the status of a godly warrior, somehow he reunited with his lord in MO2.

Ina

She was deffinitely shot down in strength in WO. Her attacks were weak and charges didnt seem very effective. Her R1 was alright, but I would have liked something a little better. Maybe if it had better range and strength, than that would have been enough to improve it alot. She annoyed me in the battle at Sekigahara in WO. She is deffinitley better in SW2

Fayt - August 5, 2008 04:23 AM (GMT)
Ina
I agree Jasonic, she got nerfed badly in WO as far as I'm concerned. Her charge attacks and Musou attack have lost power. I also really miss her old special attack which immediately activated elements from SW2.

Even her R1 attack is not that good, she is one of the real disappointments of WO, give me her SW2 type any day over her WO type.

Xalfrea - August 5, 2008 06:37 AM (GMT)
Ina

Gameplay Wise
For such a good character in SW2, Ina really got worse in WO. Since she's a speed character, she is weakend to an extent, and then theres the fact that her charge and musou attacks have been weakend too. No element activation either, and her R1's are not all that good. Pretty funny to hear her say "Fire!" though.

Personality Wise
She's got her new inter-time BFF, SSX, and thats a fun thing, to watch and listen too. I also like her interaction with Huang Zhong and Xiahou Yuan regarding her arrow skills. I await her dream mode stage with those two in WO2.

LittleDragonKHM - August 5, 2008 07:26 AM (GMT)
Ina
She was my fav female character in SW2 and she still is in Wo. But she isn't as strong as she was. Her new R1s do some decent damages but certainly not as powerful as her elemental R1s from SW2.

Da Qiao Forever - August 5, 2008 11:21 AM (GMT)
Ina
She got worse in this game. It's only because arrows got nerfed. Though she is better in WO2 since they actually do damage now...but it sucks they don't stun officers...Though she is getting Tenbu/Almighty! I think some of her element activations need some work. Like her C3 only activates at the end but she should also get 1 in the beginning explosion thing!

Mr.Honda - August 6, 2008 10:27 PM (GMT)
Ina

Moveset/Gameplay - Wow, my favorite female character ... poor Ina got nerfed badly while generic archers can practically kill you in a single volley. SPD type suits her quite well, but her moves just didn't seem to get beefed up like most of the others. She loses the ability to R1+S > Musou spam from SW2 and she doesn't have elemental special either. Thankfully, the enchants in WO2 will help her greatly.

Story/Personality - From following Tadakatsu around to developing a buddy-buddy relationship with SSX. I'd say her personality is better in WO, though she didn't have too much storyline time. WO2 goes a bit further into this so that should be nice to see.

Oblivion94 - August 8, 2008 01:59 PM (GMT)
Ina
Gameplay Wise
She got nerfed bad, her R1 attacks are far from powerful, her Specials are taken off eliminating her element advantage. :(

Story Wise
Sun Shang Xiang found her match, a great combo indeed though it seems she does little for Wu in the game, she often appears on Orochi's side as an unwilling ally. :ph43r:

Ranmaru Mori

Easily one of my favorites in WO. He is so strong and his charge attacks are in invincible. His R1 attack is strong, but not the best ive seen. Personality wise, he seemed like a blood thirsty boy becoming a man in SW2  and in WO, he seemed like a guy who wanted a good leader to follow. His C4 is my favorite attack to use, and ultimately making me coming back to him time and time again. Really awesome in WO.

You said it all, I couldn't agree more.
I really like him in WO. He's movesets are powerful and his R1 is really effective. No need to say he's definitely improved. He also plays quite a big role in Wu story. That's good because he didn't get that kind of attention in SW2. -_-

Xalfrea - August 10, 2008 02:07 PM (GMT)
Ranmaru

Gameplay Wise

I gotta admit, when I first unlocked Ranmaru in SW2, I found him really hard to get used to, he was pretty slow, and didn't have really impressive R1's.

In WO he's much better. At first I thought Ranmaru would be a speed type, given his small stature, but with him as a Power Character, it really boosts his strength. His R1 is also deadly, good against soldiers and really effective against officers.

Personality Wise

Ohhhkay.... why in the world did Ranmaru not get a story in SW2? That very thing causes Ranmaru not to have much personality in SW2 besides him being Nobunaga's bodyguard. In WO, he is a major character in the Wu story, as Sun Ce's new follower. A really great improvement IMO.

The WO voice makes him sound more like a girl, but it at least is more natural than the wooden, robotic VA of SW2.

You've both said what I was gonna say here.

Story Wise
What Jasonic said, he features in a few of battles with Sun Ce and acts as Sun Ce's Bodyguard of sorts, he seemed confused during the Sun Ce Vs Sun Quan situation though.
