Title: Who's your favorite Shu character of all-time?
LittleDragonZ - August 3, 2008 06:42 PM (GMT)
Mine would have to be Zhao Yun because of his appearance, especially in 3 and 6, his attitude towards fighting, and his moveset in earlier games which was really just above average, but very improved in 6 due to the flashy Renbu. Though in all the games his story has barely changed, even with the addition of characters and stages.
What about you?
fledgling phoenix - August 3, 2008 06:57 PM (GMT)
Pang Tong obviously. :P
When i first played with him, i fell in love with his Musou attack. And if used properly with the right items, you can spam it after one charge attack.
I also like his personality and his sense of humor. :)
Sun Wukong - August 3, 2008 07:02 PM (GMT)
i never really was that obesed with him as i am today because when i say how he looked in DW6 he looked really impressive so i started playing with him so i kinda made him become one of my favourite characters oh and in DW6 he is like the best!
Mitsurugi_Hitsen - August 3, 2008 07:23 PM (GMT)
Zhuge Liang is obviously the best! :D
Mind over matter and such.
And obviously, the best strategy in the world is to light enemy ships on fire, then run into the burning ships... obviously. :D
foomin - August 3, 2008 07:42 PM (GMT)
this is the only tie for me. Huang Zhong and Yue Ying. i'll stick to Huang Zhong and let tenno handle Yue Ying.
always liked the old guy his MS is a little lacking in some areas, but he's a good solid dependalbe character. i like the dual Scimitar/Bow MS from DW3-5, it's easier to use than Xiahou Yuan and HZ's model's are MUCH better. his Musou used in the right close-up situation is good and takes life, but not the best, with the stumble at the end. he's got good combos, of which several end in devastation.
Huang Zhong has always had a good story, but he's seemed like a loner to me before DW6. all in all a great character with a few flaws.
Jasonic - August 3, 2008 07:43 PM (GMT)
MA CHAO!, need I say more :D
"The spear of justice"
I have always liked his moves in the past and finally in DW5 they were turned into perfection. Best attack on a horse and fantastic moveset with an awesome C1. And his design and look in DW5 were top notch IMO, love the dragon armor.
But they screwed him over in DW6 by getting rid of his dragon armor and giving him a generic moveset. And now he has a horrible huge ass sword, which does not fit him.
*sigh* -_- Sadly his glory days are over.
Spiral - August 3, 2008 07:46 PM (GMT)
Isnt obvious...
Xing Cai of course!
I know she not the most love!
Because of her voice ... Always with voices but the japanese sound okay!
I like her movesets. It doesnt even bother me lol..Is that weird...
Though I gotta say her musou is irrataing..
But I love using her.
First character to finish leveling up..
Also I love her designs and personality.
Gawd to I miss her.. =(
Also if there was a all button I put all of the shu charactesr love them to death!
Fayt - August 3, 2008 08:53 PM (GMT)
Bah, I picked Zhao Yun...
As much as that bothers me, I find it truly hard not too. Zhao Yun was the first character I used, and for a while was my favourite in fact, he is very easy to use, fast, has a move set that can do just about anything. I don't exactly like voting for him because he gets talked up a bit to much. But, that is exactly how the novel portrayed him, so I've got no major objections there either.
Plus, he plays the heroic role rather well, his loyalty to Liu Bei is unquestionable.
zacattack214 - August 4, 2008 12:49 AM (GMT)
It occurs to me that I actually confused Ma Chao for Wei Yan. So all the things I said were actually directed towards him. I have found that Wei Yan is actually a worthy adversary. I enjoy his rather brainless mumblings. He is indeed very neanderthal. He would be an excellent minion. Muahaha However, I find Yue Ying has the best weapon of the Shu officers, and she's loads more attractive.
Gtown - August 4, 2008 02:36 AM (GMT)
You already know who it is for me. *points to sig*
Of course I'm gonna say Guan Yu. He always has a good story line and VA. His moveset though somewhat difficult to use is great once you get the hang of it. As well as him having great interactions with not only other Shu generals but relationships with two of my Wei favs. Plus his great loyalty towards Shu and Liu Bei. He could very easily have just stayed with Cao Cao and helped destroy Shu. But he didn't. What's not to love about the God of War? :P
tennoarashi - August 4, 2008 04:42 AM (GMT)
Do I really have to answer this? ....Alright, I suppose.
| QUOTE (foomin) |

 Thank you; I think.
Here's my answer; copied and pasted from way back when (I'd write a new one, but that would be redundant because this peice of text encompasses all that's notable!) -
Ah, Yue Ying. Ah, DW4 Yue Ying.
When I first read about Yue Ying, I flipped out over how cool the elements that made her sounded. She's wearing green and white, my faovurite colours! She's using a scythe! She looks like a Valkyrie! She's aligned with the Moon! She's married but isn't defined by it (cue precursor to my talking of DW5)! She's known for being not attractive by conventional means, which is amazing! She's a genius inventor! She's a tactician! She's an ASTROLOGIST! Those are like, the elements you take, throw into a pot, and boil when creating a character I would love.
And I did. I refused to play with anyone else until I unlocked her in DW4, and I only used the CAW. And playing with her was a good time. SSSSST Musou. With Attackx2. Against Lu Bu. Good times.
She wasn't really featured in alot of campaigns, but the ones she was featured in she did have cool stuff to do. Like Wu & Wei's Cheng Du. Her Juggernauts were there. She gave you instruction at Jie Ting a bit. She protected the seige ramp in Xu Chang. Stuff like that. She handled herself with dignity and resect, but also down-to-earthness and matter-of-factness that was neither cold or rude. Yue Ying was strong in her resolve to do what was best for Shu, and she also had a strong love for her husband (notable when she was defeated or killed, her 'Farewell, my husband...' was so sad). The two of them did things together, but were capable seperately and matched each other well. Zhuge Liang probably needed her to laugh and understand what he was talking about half the time (since few other people would).
She was pretty awesome in DW4.
In DW5, apparently Koei had the great idea that 'Hey, wives are totally obsessed with their husbands and think of nothing else other than stuff that concerns their husbands!'.
It became a running joke between my friends the amount of times she's say 'My husband'. We would replace 'My husband' with 'My taco' 'Kursty the Klown' and 'Nobunaga'.
Her outfit was change and it was still great in a design sense, but it lost some of the practicallity in leiu of a more distinctive shillouette... Which looked like a poofy dress. I love her DW5 design, but I will admit it looks like she's wearing a poofy dress and apron. Her boots are amazing though and I will have them someday.
So the only reason I could really keep liking her in DW5 was because of my immense love of her in DW4. Yes, it was that huge.
That and her boots.
But really, beyond this rant - I do love Yue Ying still. I love her courage, I love her intelligence, her strength, and her faith. The one aspect about her that Koei seems to like (beyond MY HUSBAND) is that she's among the most faithful of Shu's troops, I've found (or not, it's just that her faith is most mentioned). She's faithful despite being an inventor and tactician. In MO, it's furthered - she has faith that her husband is not evil. She has faith that Shu will succeed, and she refuses to submit. She has faith in herself and her allies.
Faith can go a long way.
Skode - August 4, 2008 05:49 AM (GMT)
For me i liked the ever sarcastic and laid back personality of Pang Tong, he has one of the most unorthodox fighting styles but his musuo is invaluable in any situation be it against a tough officer or to crowd clear.
Rultzbud - August 4, 2008 05:59 AM (GMT)
Wow.. You really like Yue Ying.. O.O
This is hard too... Hm..
I say Zhang Fei.. He's fast(ish), strong, and has a cool looking weapon.
I love his story mode, and yeah, I started using him in DW5, and basicly fell in love. His part in Chang Ban, was astounding. Then DW6 comes out, so I decide to use him, and to my surprise, his MS, and weapon actually improved.
His personality: the drunken fighter whose loyality never wavers! Simply awesome.
2nd Choices would be: Guan Yu, Huang Zhong, and Ma Chao (in no order)
wu_tiger - August 4, 2008 02:28 PM (GMT)
I cant pick between, Jiang We and Xin Cai, Ill go for Jiang Wei.
I like him because he defeated me on Wu Zhang plains, after me and my cousins thought he was Zhao Yun, to be fair they looked alike. In DW4 i didnt play him much cos well, I disliked DW4 a bit, even though hia DW4 outfit is the best he has ever had. In DW5 I played as him, and got used to im muh much more and I wouldnt rest untilhe was maxed out haha. Also funny thing, I am not sure if anyone else has found this but on DW5 : XL, load original and play Tian Shui on Shu side, when Jiang Wei is retreating back to the main castle and Zhuge tells you to stop him, when you encounter him and an officer says something ( for me it was Zhao Yun with his ' This batlefield belongs to us') and instead of Zhao Yun and that line show up, Jiang Weis face showed and the line was 'dummy', it wasnt said though which was disappointing

Ummm...yea....what he said
That pretty much sums it up for me. Plus I love the relationship with his brothers. I've said it before, they remind me of me and my 2 brothers alot even though I'm the oldest, and Yu is the middle brother he's the protector of them and the most known. (but historically I heard GY was the oldest. IDK)
yukimura sanada55 - August 4, 2008 03:18 PM (GMT)
zhuge liang all the way he seems to be the coolest shu character he is smart and deviose and even wen outnumbered he still owns , but surely out shines sima yi best design is dw6 and the dw6 moveset is superb
second fav is guan yu
Samurai Master - August 4, 2008 09:32 PM (GMT)
I would have to say Zhuge Liang he is a very smart character and always have back up plans when one of his plans fail. His moveset isn't that bad and i liked his C3 where it breaks anyones block and also liked his C6 that took loads of life from officers and also at the end of his musou it takes quite a lot of life against officers.
makito - August 5, 2008 02:52 AM (GMT)
mine would be Liu Bei.
I find him really nice and I also love playing with him. There's not much reason for him being my fave one I guess
Burning Skulls - August 5, 2008 03:47 AM (GMT)
I like the majority of Shu characters but I have to say Zhuge Liang. Out of Shu I like his moveset and costume the best. In Empires I usually start forces with him quite often.
And IMO he has an awesome personality, VA, and position historically. He's basically a genius (I hope I spelled that right) and one of the greatest strategists of all time. If only he would've lived longer Shu would've done much better.
Otherwise my other Shu favorites are Jiang Wei, Guan Yu, Ma Chao, Zhao Yun, Wei Yan, and Lie Bei. Basically the whole army.
Dyansty Warrior77 - August 5, 2008 10:00 PM (GMT)
I like zhao yun because of his appearance and his fighting. He's awesome! i can beat alot of soliders with him.
Yoshitsune Minamoto - August 6, 2008 09:52 PM (GMT)
I would go to Guan Yu (DW5), he is my 3rd favorite DW character, he has very good movesets with great wide-range and he is a very good crowd clearer. Plus he has a cool beard ^_^
Oblivion94 - August 6, 2008 10:19 PM (GMT)
Zhang Fei, obviously
His moveset may have only been really good in DW6, although it was good in DW4-5 anyways, but I like his brash personality, he is a man of pure emotion, thats what I like.
His story is great especially his main scene at Chang Ban, it would be better if he interacted with more people besides his Brothers, like Zhao Yun or Ma Chao.
The weapon in DW6 looks awesome, something that looks really intimidating fitting of Zhang Fei.
I hope Koei can establish his character a bit more though.
Other Choices: Huang Zhong, Zhao Yun, Guan Yu, Wei Yan :)
Schwarzwind - August 7, 2008 11:26 PM (GMT)
Zhao Yun, of course. =) His bold and loyal personality, awesome moveset, and handsome facade won me over. I wish there were an option to switch the voices in the later games though, because I find his Japanese VA is sweet music to my ears.
Obelisk - August 11, 2008 03:30 AM (GMT)
I'll go with Pang tong. I love his movesets for all the games, definetly close second is Zhang Fei I would of picked him but I love pang tong's new costume. Pang Tong was a genius strategist I wished he would of survived Zhang Ren's ambush. :(
Yuki - August 13, 2008 06:03 PM (GMT)
Zhao Yun, Liu Bei, Ma Chao, Zhuge Liang and the others.
The Shu are a very good groupe to play and in the story. The five Tigers are so strong.
I LOVE them.
Rydain - August 13, 2008 06:31 PM (GMT)
@foomin - Once again, great minds think alike. :D
Huang Zhong is my favorite in Shu because I want to be as awesome as he is when I grow up. As long as you can bring it, you're never too old to kick ass. Gameplay-wise, I always liked his archery attacks and his DW6 sword move set isn't too shabby. It's not my favorite, but it's reasonably good with lots of fun ice special effects.
Cao Pi - August 14, 2008 12:57 AM (GMT)
For me, Ma Chao. What can I say, I'm large fan of the whole Justice thing, and he always looks cool....but he could look cooler in DW6 if he had his dragon theme going on...
He has the famous C4 which send enemies flying, an officer killing C3, great crowd clearing C1 and C6. The end of his Musou looks awesome as well and has great range and power.
Horse riding is probably his strongest aspect (Hoping that they make him better with the new weapon for horseback). His JC is also good, lacking in power, but makes up for in speed, movement and general spinning.
So yeah, being a dragon of justice is quite good, I hope he improves in later games.
Lubu5176 - August 16, 2008 01:57 AM (GMT)
Zhao Yun all the way he is better than all of the other shu characters
PatrickTheKing - August 16, 2008 04:02 AM (GMT)
Guan Yu has been (and will always be) my favourite DW character. It all goes back to when I first played DW3 many years ago. I just fell in love with the man with the lengthy beard! haha.
whitestallion - August 17, 2008 07:07 AM (GMT)
MA CHAO is the best!!! he is undefeated on horse and has a brillant moveset on ground!
Ma Chao is basically the best of all Shu characters! His wide range able to kill anything in his way.On his horse he is basically god and his DW5 and Dw6 outfit looks so cool
Justice rules!
onelastTAPOW - August 17, 2008 05:11 PM (GMT)
Wei Yan and Guan Ping!
Who says you need to be eloquent to be AWESOME!?!
And Guan Ping has an innate ability to be an insane butcher and has one of the coolest C6s.
Seiai - August 21, 2008 03:22 PM (GMT)
Yue Ying, definetly.
I would type up a nice long description of why I choose her, but tennoarashi already did. We think alike on almost everything covered in tenno's post, so...I'll refrain and sum it up in one statement: Scythe-lady~<3!
I love all the Shu kingdom playable characters; they're my favorite kingdom by far and I always feel somewhat like a traitor when I fight against Shu. My friends and I have come up with some sort of endearing trait for almost all of them and I started out playing DW3 with Guan Yu (if you're a man and you don't like his beard, there's something wrong with you. >:E). Key points are: Virtue, Justice, FOR MY BROTHERS!!, helping out Nanman and all that.
Runner up: Zhuge Liang, the genius strategist~
(and BELOVED HUSBAND OMG! Back off, Zhen Ji! D;)
SnowMan - August 22, 2008 03:43 AM (GMT)
Zhao Yun. He was always so badass and righteous. His appearences from DW2-DW6 have always been great, his movesets from DW3-5 have been reliable, and his moveset from DW6 is one of, if not the best in the game. Zhao Yun has a lot of haters, but I've always really liked him.
To be honest, I was never a huge fan of Shu. I mean, I like them, but I'd choose Wu & Wei over Shu most of the time. I love 5 characters from them, a low number compared to Wei & Wu. I like a few others, but ever since I started my love of DW, Shu has always been my 3rd place kingdom.
Runner Up: 4 way tie between Guan Yu, Huang Zhong, Wei Yan, & Pang Tong.
docdoom - August 22, 2008 01:25 PM (GMT)
In terms of effectiveness I've always found Pang Tong and Zhuge Liang more than useful. I also like using Huang Zhong...his bow attacks REALLY help when in a jam.
Pang Tong is most probably my favourite, his charge attacks are pretty good (especially the finaly two) and I love his character in general. Great humour, playful and of course wise. I love his jump charge attack, being able to hover using his staff is a nice change of pace comapred to others.
His DW5 costume with sombrero...class.
When I first started really getting into DW, Shu was always a Kingdom I chose an officer from. But as I continue to play ,and find some characters useless, I find myself preferring Wu more and more. Wei has only one favourite for me- Xiahou Dun (I'm also taking a liking to Xu Huang, never really played as him much until recently).
Kotaro - August 22, 2008 11:41 PM (GMT)
Huang Zhong.
He's old, but he'll kick your ass.
cruger2984 - August 28, 2008 11:09 AM (GMT)
I vote for Zhang Fei (or Yide) because his attacks and musou attacks are great.
Wei-Yan - August 31, 2008 02:54 AM (GMT)
its a tough one but i would have to say Wei Yan although not in dw6 like his clothes but his weapon and moves suck
for second its also tough i would say Zhang Fei only just ahead of Zhao Yun
Bamboo - September 2, 2008 01:14 AM (GMT)
Guan Ping. He's a young dragon attempting to ascend and live up to his father's status.I guess his clan and (pre-Dynasty Warriors 6)weapon also intrigued me.A giant blade that's proportions were too big, with intricate designs, easily handled by a man in his younger years.Astounding.
The only reason with him for me was that is weapon seemed too heavy/big for him in Dynasty Warriors 6.
With him,Guan Yu comes second, then Liu Bei.
King Of Wei - September 4, 2008 04:05 PM (GMT)
Guan Yu
I like his moveset and his story mode in DW5 the best in Shu. Also his musou attack is pretty impressive. You can practically kill everyone. His the only Shu character I like.
Ma5ter - September 4, 2008 06:37 PM (GMT)
Every character in Shu i like.......
But for all time I picked Liu Bei, since he is the one who controls Shu and so all of its general in shu who are my fav characters.
Also great that he has a unique weapon and moveset in DW6, which also makes him one of my all time fav.
