Title: What Is Your Favorite Series From Rotk?

Ouji Shingen - August 24, 2005 10:51 PM (GMT)
Does anyone play the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series? I just got RTK 10 for my 16th birthday (which was on the 20th), and I haven't been able to stop playing it.

What do you guys think about these series? As far as I'm concerned, everyone could learn something about the Three Kingdoms era just by playing RTK a bit.

What are your comments on the RTK series?

Insp. Chin - August 25, 2005 01:07 AM (GMT)
Well Sean, :) I've played IV, V, VI, VII, VIII and I think I enjoyed most fun on the V series, can still remember my friends were with me playing on it whole day and whole night long!!

Drunken Tiger - August 25, 2005 01:15 AM (GMT)
Wow, that's pretty cool yo... Maybe I should buy one...

Ouji Shingen - August 25, 2005 01:16 AM (GMT)
To me, the most fun I've ever had playing it was when I had three friends over, and we were playing RTK 8. We each chose an officer. My friends all used lords (like Cao Cao, Meng Huo, Dong Zhuo...hoping the battles would be similar to those of the DW series), while I myself used Lu Bu. (100+ WAR stat. Yippee.)

My friends being the rulers...while I was an officer of Dong Zhuo's...so, the first chance I got, I resigned and made my own force, and creamed Dong Zhuo. Sun Quan and Cao Cao followed soon after.

*sigh* That was fun, but a tad short. Well, to me, it was fun, to them...probably not.

Insight - August 25, 2005 11:19 AM (GMT)
hm,it has a multiplayer? you can play it with friends too o.o
a new party game, yea thats what we need (lol).
can you post the homepage of RTK 10,10 is the latest one?

Gryffin - August 25, 2005 02:42 PM (GMT)
I've played VII, VIII, IX, and X. I didn't like IX, but VII is good, VII is excellent, and X is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.

Well, technically, it's not a multiplayer mode, but since the game allows you to control up to eight different officers, I did it with three other people, and we each controlled one officer.

It's up to you if you want to call that "Multiplayer."

Basically, if you've played Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires...It's a little like that, except the portraits for the officers look nothing like their counterparts from the DW series. You, being either the vassal or the ruler, raise an army and crush your opponents. The events follow history, but there are some things in the game that didn't happen in history. So, I guess it follows the novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, as there's that Shu guy, named Zhou Cang, that didn't appear in actual history, but he's there anyway.

Mori Ranmaru - August 25, 2005 08:31 PM (GMT)
Note that you can only control one officer in 10, Koei mistakenly put multiplayer on the back of the box but amended it on their webpage. I've played most of the games aside from 9, which I can't find anywhere. 10 is probably my favorite, though I've yet to actually finish any scenarios.

Ouji Shingen - August 25, 2005 08:35 PM (GMT)
Hmm...I never noticed that, but it is pretty funny how they put 1-8 players on the back of the box.

However, it's far more in-depth than DW4E. You must balance and conserve resources, forge alliances (not just through a one-click proposal), and defeat your enemies via strategy, rather than hack and slash stuff. Stats and skills are important, and you can form personal bonds with other characters.

thank you which would you think i should get

Gryffin - August 25, 2005 09:56 PM (GMT)
I'd go with X. It's a bit more complicated, but it has a tutorial feature that teaches ou as you go, rather than 7/8's help Screen. However, if cost's an isse, then go with 7. iIt's prolly cheaper.

Lord_Tyrant - August 25, 2005 09:58 PM (GMT)
i'll see how much x is if its too much than i'll get 7

Bao Jin - August 25, 2005 11:31 PM (GMT)
If you are a major grammar King, don't get VIII. It has the WORST english ever. Such as:
-The Xia Pi of Gao Gan has switched to the side of Cao Cao.
-In Cao Xiong's bio it says Ku Bu instead of Lu Bu.

Jasper-Casper - September 5, 2005 09:19 AM (GMT)
Man.... i totally dont understand anything what you guys talking about. Maybe i need to buy one and try it my self.

obito - September 5, 2005 07:06 PM (GMT)
I recently saw RTK10 at the game store and I looked at the back cover and it looks like a PC game. A ncie one, if I may add.

Symphony_572 - September 10, 2005 10:17 PM (GMT)
I thought all of them were made for PC? the ROTK ones....

Really? I saw the ROTK10 game for the PS2. I assumed that the some of the other ROTK games were also for the PS2.

Fantasy Star - September 13, 2005 04:06 AM (GMT)
I love that game, brings me back into 2nd Century China, I remember I tried making my own force, I failed miserably. I remember this one time I got my friend into it, and "persuaded" him to betray his force.

The Music is awesome, it'd be great if someone'd get a copy. It's the kind of music you wanna be listening to when playing Go.

Ouji Shingen - September 17, 2005 11:09 PM (GMT)
Hmm...Not a bad idea. Listening to RTK music playing a board game.

Hanzomaster - November 11, 2005 02:11 AM (GMT)
Zhang Liao is still alittle Bit**
I killed off the whole Liu line
Zhuge Line and Guan but can't get the Zhangs though
and Zhang Liao is still with them and Liao Hun is the leader now since every time the new since I've killed alot of people within that army

started a new game Cao Cao is beating the hell out of Sun Ce and I beating the brakes off Liu Zhang and Zhang Lu and Yuan Shang man me and Cao Cao are just whipping ass and taking names then when I got done taking out those guys I sumbitted to Cao Cao so now is force is the only in the land well Ce is there but its just a matter of time before I end the Sun line

Ouji Shingen - November 11, 2005 07:45 PM (GMT)
When you make a new officer in RTK10, what stats do you generally give it? When I made Lu Xia, I gave him 100's for every stat, but he didn't live that long.

If I were to make a guy that corrsponded with my stats in real life, I think the highest stat would probably be around 60 for charisma.

Hanzomaster - November 12, 2005 12:12 AM (GMT)
I create what I feel like
with Cao Song
its Cao Cao son so you know his POL,INT,CHA is 100 and WAR is just a random thing I go back and foruth with the D-Pad then stop what ever it is I leave it

When compared to a regualr joe thats fair enough but how about comparing that to Liu Bei or his ilk? 60's quite high. (Yuan Shu only has 44...)

I don't know, maybe you are a very charismatic guy! But are you judging that by yourself or how it would be if you were a warlord?

I usually don't go too far with the stats, its a bit ridiculous to overshadow the main characters. Unless you're going for an all out fiction war!

Hanzomaster, I believe you mean Cao Cao's father.

Playing as a character with low stats can actually be quite fun if you are a ruler. Need to employ some seriously talented officers quickly though. :D
I'm playing as Yuan Shu at the moment. Lu Bu's my oath brother...

Hanzomaster - November 12, 2005 12:46 AM (GMT)
no My CAW name is Cao Song and Cao Cao is his father I just took Cao Cao's father name and made it his son name to

Oh, that explains it then.

By the way, why do people call it CAW? Isn't that Create A Wrestler?

Hanzomaster - November 12, 2005 01:28 AM (GMT)
it that to
and Create A Warrior to

Soujya - November 12, 2005 01:49 AM (GMT)
Ah, I've just never seen it refered to as such. Also because many of the characters aren't exactly warriors.

Following from that, I'd be interested to know what character types you guys prefer to play as. For example, do you prefer warriors or strategists? Characters with high Int or War?

I personally prefer advisor/minister style characters but I like average stat sovereigns too. I think high stat characters make the game a little easy... (Like Liu Bei being able to recruit every officer in the game real fast with high Cha stat)

Hanzomaster - November 12, 2005 01:55 AM (GMT)
A mix of both for me like Cao Cao they mess up on his WAR since well back when he fought he was quite good his WAR should have been around 80-85 but its in the 70's which is stupid

The one thing I like to do with MY CAW is to join Shu then when I'm a viceroy I gain alot of land then betray that fool and join Wei with all the land I got then go on to crush Shu and Wu now thats fun times

Soujya - November 12, 2005 02:14 AM (GMT)
Heh Heh, a sinister strategy, but a strategy nonetheless. Actually thats quite an imaginitive way to play it. I usually just choose a character and go unless some sort of event occurs along the way. (Like having a really lame leader who doesn't expand his land whatsoever)

Eva-02 - November 12, 2005 11:18 PM (GMT)
I really want to get this or these games sean so that I can be introduced to this three kingdom world truely. Have you played em sean, probably have but just tell me what they were like if you don;t mind,

Ouji Shingen - November 12, 2005 11:30 PM (GMT)
If you cannot stand sitting down for well over three days just trying to beat the game, don't bother getting it. That's pretty much it. It's a good way to learn about the Three Kingdoms era...

Actually, scratch that. It isn't.

Eva-02 - November 12, 2005 11:43 PM (GMT)
ha never mind, no just joking i've thought about getting it many times before so yeah. Whatever I won't have the patience but I may suprise my self

Soujya - November 13, 2005 01:25 AM (GMT)
It's one of the worst for eating time all right. Especially because somtimes you don't seem to be making much progress and you keep playing anyway. You don't get a whole lot done in 20 hours... Still its hyper addictive if you get a good game going.

Eva-02 - November 13, 2005 01:47 AM (GMT)
really that's cool i'll really try get it and tell you about it when I do just for fun. It sounds interesting, how is the gameplay set up by any chance?

Compared to my WAR stat, which could be, like, in the low 20's?

Hey, every character (Even Liu Shan) has good stats. Even his CHA is in the 60's, only 'cuz he's Liu Bei's son.

...Actually, isn't Huang Hao's highest stat, like, 15 or something for INT?

Gryffin - November 16, 2005 02:41 PM (GMT)
We should make a "Give yourself and others RoTK stats!" thread. Those are fun.

Ouji Shingen - November 16, 2005 09:11 PM (GMT)
Sure. Want to make it? I want to see who's the first to declare themselves with 100's on all stats.

Holy Arbiter - November 16, 2005 09:13 PM (GMT)
How would you rate this game?
