IC Information
Name: Victoria Rose Hamilton

Avatar: Cate Blanchett

Occupation: Anonymous proprietor to a women's shelter and schoolhouse.

Age: Thirty-One

Gender: Female

Appearance: Judging by outward appearance alone, Victoria Hamilton surpasses the ideal standard set for ladies belonging to such a critical society. Her stature is lean and long, with slender arms, a tapered waist, rounded hips and exquisite legs. Some might consider her ungainly if she didn't hold herself as well as she does. Oftentimes you'll find her chin lifted just so with a hardened expression etched across otherwise delicate features and the hint of a mischevous sparkle within the depths of almond-shaped blue eyes. Fringed in long, dark lashes, it is sometimes impossible to dictate exactly whether they are one set colour, frequently switching from blue to green or an alloy of the two depending on her mood. Beneath a long, narrow nose - too long, in her opinion - sits a full pink mouth and sharp chin which she inherited from her mother. Long curls of golden hair, slowly succumbing to the silver of age, frames her delightful heart-shaped face and, paired with high, arching cheekbones and elegant hollows, marks the classical beauty of a proudly matured woman who truly appreciates her health and figure.

As a child, she'd endured a horrible bout of the spots but because it was so carefully tended to, she has now been afforded with a luxuriously clear complexion. Indeed, her fair skin appears no more swarthy than drifts of snow, the only vibrancy upon her person that of her smoldering eyes.

In regards to her dress, Victoria adheres to the expected protocal of tying her hair back with ribbon and pins and seems to favor the stiffer material for day-dresses and gowns. Softer colours seem to compliment her, though she often dismisses them for white and dove-grays. Her swan-like neck is perpetually hung with a string of pearls given to her as a gift from her uncle. Otherwise she wears little to no jewelry or makeup. In fact, she prefers to keep up a fresh-faced look as opposed to the gaunt masks of powder and rouge; a frivolous trend the younger generation seems to have recently adopted. Small, lily-white hands are constantly covered with wrist-length gloves while equally dainty feet sport buttery slippers and stockings.

And despite being only but plainly pretty, Victoria knows how to draw admiring glances. The trick is to carry oneself with the utmost confidence - although not the overbearing sort - and perfected poise. Over the years she's learnt to appear as though she is floating while ignoring the potential hindrance offered by long, large skirts and a suffocating corset of ivory and taut cord. Indeed, she is sure to leave a lasting impression after entering a room, even while dressed in a dull, uninspiring frock.

Personality: To put it mildly, Victoria's personality is the polar opposite of the demure, ladylike appearance she exhibits.

Her most prominent quality perhaps is her undeniable wit. Raised within an educated household under the strict and demanding schedule of her father, and the critical eye of her mother - it wasn't a wonder any of the Hamilton children did not rebel. As a child, she'd aquired a private tutor to instruct her in the ways of poetry and literature. Initially her father did not approve, but was easily deflated by her mother whom insisted it would keep their daughter aware and away from the foolish endevours other girls her age might be tempted to dabble in. So with the promise that it would lead to nothing more than a reasonable outlook, Victoria was permitted to continue her studies. It was when she turned thirteen she began stealing away into her father's study to gather books on science and law. Forbidden pursuites of any female that respected her family reputation, Victoria wasn't stupid enough to boast about her secret quest for such enlightenment.

Quick on her feet, Victoria has always been able to talk her way - almost effortlessly - out of a volatile situation. Compliments and sweet nuances spill easily from between her lips, often sweetening a moody guest. She is a charismatic woman, relayed through a dazzling smile and twinkling eyes. Even so, she can be quite judgmental and relies on first impressions with which to sum up someone's worth and respectability. Some might call it unreasonable. Able to hold a grudge, and - although a cheerful individual - won't hesitate to take anything personally, her sense of humor is somewhat dry when someone, even playfully, mentions her family or the glaringly obvious gender segregation in society. Politically-sensitive, these jives are never taken lightly in her company.

Her mother's daughter, Victoria is often hard on herself and shows the tendancies of a perfectionist. Nothing is ever quite done to her satisfaction, especially not the first time around. She will pick up loopholes with ease and seek ways to correct them even if takes hours when composing a simple letter. Her written hand is perfected and way with words exceptional even by an author's standard. This puts people off quite a bit, but is something Victoria certainly isn't ashamed of. In this regard, she also expects a great deal out of others. Though she is gentle, she will criticize work other than her own with the belief that she's doing them good, not putting them down. This includes men who have attempted to court her. Miss. Hamilton will not associate herself with just anyone and values hard work, manners and competence in all things that are most important.

Unrelenting perhaps with her fellow peers, Victoria does have a soft-spot for children. She enjoys teaching them and helping them better understand the society in which they live. Bestowing her own knowledge upon them with the realization they will carry it with them for the rest of their lives is very rewarding to her, partly why she later decided to fund a school for those who couldn't afford the luxury of a tutor.

Overall a respectable, intelligent woman who obliges society's expectations of a woman while still holding her own, and with a sense of genuinity and kindness about her incomparable to the ladies of fashion, Victoria is considered quite a valuable member of the surrounding community and an especially maternal figure for the younger generation.

History: She was born Victoria Rose Hamilton on a brisk November morning in a cozy, if not spacious, estate set in the Pleasant District. November 12th, to be exact.
Being a Hamilton, she was, of course, born into a long, indisputable, and flawless line of Nobility. That almost went without saying. She was an anomaly, a novelty, among the proud Hamilton family, however. Her appearance was normal, and she grew to be much like them, but there was always something about her, something that set her apart. Her blue-green eyes, a lone glint of cerulean among a sea of brown and greys, was odd, for one.

The young Ms. Hamtilon showed great promise at an early age. Besting most all of her fellow peers during private tutoring sessions on numerous occasions and attempting very complicated assignments simply because the thought of surpassing herself fascinated her.
As a toddler, she was taught the feminine arts by her mother and elder cousin. During this process, her studies began to focus mainly on science and math. Her father of course resented the idea that a member of his household should pursue such forbidden topics usually reserved for men. It wasn't long before he'd been coerced into a gentler disposition by her mother however who insisted it was only to her benefit.

Eventually, she became a young woman and her father began to explain the prospect of marriage. The Hamilton's were a very traditional generation, and so women were expected to marry into wealthy high-ranking families and raise children while the men took on more demanding schedules and interests.
Adhering to her father's wishes, Victoria began seeking the company of young men. Yet as many offers as she recieved, the wild young thing proved to be far too fussy - a fact which both amused and frustrated her parents. Years passed and Victoria slowly fell into a state of mild depression. Her father had begun to constantly berate her on her failure at marriage, soon driving her to pursue other endevours that gave her personal meaning.

It was at that time she anonymously opened a shelter for young girls whom had subjected themselves to the humiliation of prostitution. Not only did it distract her from her own personal troubles, but it awarded her the satisfaction of having done something meaningful with her life. Many of the women who registered themselves greatly admired Victoria for her courage and generosity, often finding a better place for themselves within the city and getting back on their feet.
She still continues to pay monthy visits when she finds the time and means to sneak away for a few hours, often delivering fresh linen and medical supplies. The nuns and nurses who work there weekly are paid by a reliable source who comes and goes quickly and without reason to be suspected by anyone, as the shelter is set in an inconspicuous part of the city not easily navigatable unless you've been given the proper directions.

As well, Victoria continues to fund her schoolhouse and remains devoted to her readings, attending social soirees less and less now that she's so consumed with her work.

Strengths:
Aggressiveness - Victoria can become especially vicious if something is taken from her - including a title or any physical possessions. She is also extremely competitive and will go out of her way to ensure she is victorious at all costs.
Intelligence - There is so mistaking Victoria's competence and intelligence. As a child, she'd even gone so far as to steal from her father's private collection in an effort to learn everything and anything about whatever she could.
Pristine Reputation - The Hamiltons are a proud, exclusively blueblooded lineage; freckled with some of the greatest men involved in the reknowned sciences. Many of them have even secured positions within prestigious firms and universities where they have been acknowledged as valuable assets.
Persuasiveness - In relation to the above point, Victoria is incredibly charismatic when she chooses to be. So it's easy for her to smooth-talk her way out of unpleasant circumstances. She is quite aware a lot of people don't particularly like her, but even then she attempts to worm her way into their good graces with a brilliant smile and frivilous compliments.
Loyalty - There is no doubt Victoria is exceptionally loyal to anything she pursues. Her studies, a relationship, and her family.

Weaknesses:
Tempermental - Although sweet when she wants to be, there's nothing that quite compares to a woman scorned. Quickly able to shift her moods, it wouldn't be a wise idea to toy with her while she's upset. Victoria can be a sore loser and will take it out on whomever's in the closest proximity. Her words can be harsh, and though she isn't violent, her temper can become dangerously volitile. Best just lock her up somewhere until she has cooled off, else you're going to find yourself wishing you had.
High Expectations - Perhaps this is because her mother had always dictated that she expected nothing but perfection from her daughter, but Victoria seems to have been subjected to it for so long that it's rubbed off on her. Usually these expectations are reserved for herself, as though she has her mother's conscience constantly dictating into her ear. Yet those she is closest with also should meet some sort of standard.
Judgemental - Mostly of others. Upon initially meeting someone, Victoria gives them the once-over and tries to recall their family history, eventually summing up their worth as an ally or even enemy. She is critical, and easily able to hold a grudge. She also has the tendancies of a perfectionist, and will harshly critisize her own work until she's satisfied with it.
Possessive - Whether it concerns her physical possessions or a young man she's had her eye on (not likely), Victoria guards them with eyes like a hawk. She is relentless in her keeping of them and will not give them up that easily. She may become aggressive in the sense that she'll give whomever is competing for them a good tongue-lashing. What's hers is hers, and somewhere along the line, she's worked hard for it.

:) I like her! And welcome to the board!

Hmm... I can't see in her history that she ever married. Did she?

I was battling between two ideas and I guess I forgot to edit that bit. Thanks for pointing it out!

Okay, I approve her. Now you just have to wait for one other staff-member.

I like her too! I only found a few small inconsistencies with her history and none at all elsewhere. :)

What rank nobility are we talking here, for the immediate parents?

This is fine, assuming that someone died and left her a personal fortune of her own (since her station otherwise is supported by her father). Maybe just say who it was?

How did they know it was her if she opened the shelter anonymously?

Since the schoolhouse wasn’t mentioned before, is this one anonymous too or not?

Oh, and… the rules, read ‘em. There’s one about sig size. *pokes* ;)

The schoolhouse was mentioned twice before that last section. Her occupation says

so I would assume that's a yes.

She could have been given money from her father when she turned eighteen even if he did not die, if he wants her to learn - but it seems he didn't (thinking of the earlier knowledge-seeking that he disapproved of) so yeah, maybe she inherited from an aunt or something.

And she did say she visits the women's shelter, Liz. They could think she's just a charitable person - volunteer thing... That was how I interpreted it anyway.
