IC Information
Name: Olivia Townsend

Avatar: Julie Christie

Occupation: Boarding-House Operator

Age: 61

Gender: Female

Appearance:
Olivia has always been considered a beautiful woman. With her slim body, generous body curves and elegant moves she was the belle of the town. Of course, she has changed up to now. Her skin is still of a healthy color, yet pale and ladylike, smooth except for the wrinkles that showed up with age. She still keeps her hair as long as it had been when she was a maiden-she even enjoys having made sophisticated hairstyles. It is still dark, with quite a few streaks of white.

For a woman of her age, Olivia is rather good looking. Her blue eyes still have some of that shine she used to carry around left, but it is different now. It is a commanding glint, one which sorts you below her or suitable for her right away. For her, there is no ‘above her’.

You could describe Olivia as serious, at least at first sight. She dons dark, but elegant dresses, mostly black, dark green or dark blue. She finds lighter colors overly childish and therefore refuses to wear them. Only sometimes, at home, she puts on a white dress, with, of course, darker samples over it. Naturally, she always picks the best-she never wears low quality clothing. Especially not in public.

Personality:
Olivia could be called snobby. Actually, that word would describe her almost exactly. She is always curt, calm and with an arrogant or an offensive grin on her lips, as if wanting to show her view of the world. Even if she, for example, could not afford something, or would find it good, she would never admit that openly. She would remain calm and cold, as if it had not touched her or is not good enough for her. She would also never talk about financial difficulties in public-for the people, she is always rich. The image of her the public holds is very important to Olivia.

Olivia is a very intelligent woman. She also has a talent for business-she knows how to negotiate and get what she wants in the end. She can also calculate when risks are worth taking and when not, when an investment is useful or not, etc. She always stands firm on the ground-dreams and such are useless to her. She considers them childish and avoids them. In her opinion, you are supposed to do something, not dream about doing it or hope to do it one day. She is very ambitious and determined.

Olivia tries not to bother with anything that is not her business and that does not affect her-she believes helping others to be stupid, especially at your own expense. She believes every person to be capable of taking care of themselves and their own. If it is about children, she might make an exception, though. Even though trying to hide it, Olivia likes children. She often regrets for never having one of her own.

She is an independent person, however, Bloomer Outfits and suffrage are indigestible to her. She finds them an embarrassment to both men and women. She thinks women have all the rights they need-suffrage is something they made up because they are bored. If it was up to her, she’d send them all to work.
Olivia would never let a man nor a woman tell her what to do. Despite her cold outside, in the inside she despises racism, wars, fights and such. She is also very fiery and fierce tempered. Of course, she would never admit or show that.

History:
Olivia Townsend was the second daughter to Peter Townsend and Cornelia Townsend, his wife. The family had always been considered respectable, belonging to upper middle class. She was also the last child of the couple, as well as an unexpected one. Cornelia had difficulties with pregnancy, and therefore had lost many unborn babies. That resulted in Olivia being the pet child-she was always favored by her parents. They kept her close, and were not as overprotective as with her older sister, Katherine. The foremost reason for that was the fact they loved Olivia so much they could not deny her a thing she would ask. She learned that at early age and started using it maximally. Peter and Cornelia rather spoiled her-she could never bear not being in the centre of attention for a mere moment. Olivia had never gotten along well with her older sister. In her opinion, Katherine was overly skinny, pale, and rather plain. When talking to her, Olivia always managed to make her opinion clear, whether by her actions or words. Sometimes it was a mere look that started a fight between two sisters.

Even when they grew up into young women, Olivia remained the prettier one. Her sister was considered weak, with her overly pale skin and a thin frame. She, on the other hand, was now considered beautiful, not just pretty. She had tons of suitors wanting her hand, but she never agreed to marry any of them. They were all below her, not nearly fitting her image of a perfect man. She considered herself to be a lady, so she never let any of the beaus do anything further but kissing her hand. Still, she found it rather fun to set them against each other by accepting gifts from two, or sometimes even more than three beaus at one time.

Olivia’s ideal man would have to be able to control her. Yes, as much as she despised being controlled, she could never marry a weak man who would be at her disposal. It simply did not suit her fiery spirit. It would not bring enough excitement into her life. Her man had to be strong, witty, charming and handsome. She had never met one even similar to that. All good looking men seemed to be weak, all ugly seemed to be strong, and nobody was witty. So Olivia had to be satisfied with manipulating the silly men who were after her heart.
In the meantime, her sister Katherine got engaged to a Colonel Humbart Bullridge. What a silly name, Olivia thought when she first met him. But there was something about him, something that made her heart quiver on the waves of an eerie feeling inside. Humbart was a handsome young soldier(uniforms have always been appealing to Olivia), possessing all the wits and the charms a woman could want. And he wanted Katherine. Not Olivia, who had always been around, whom he could have had, but Katherine. And Katherine wanted him.

Humbart died in a battle in China, Olivia had never known where exactly. She didn’t really care, for she got over him even before he left. As soon as she found out he had not wanted her, she turned to all the other beaus she had. Olivia would never degrade herself by running after a man who didn’t want her. Besides, she dismissed him as a silly crush. In reality, he had been much more than just that.

Olivia never married, just like her sister Katherine. The time passed quickly-before she knew it, she was a 50 year old woman, all of her beaus had gone away, disappeared, and she was all alone in the world. The only living relative she had was Katherine. After the death of their parents, the sisters started running a Boarding-House, to earn for living. Olivia has never quite gotten over not finding her perfect man, but she does nothing to show it.

Olivia is a shrewd businesswoman, with the ability and the desire to keep everything in perfect order and clean. However, she is not liked by the tenants. All of them prefer the nice, gray-haired Katherine who is always good to them. But, facing the facts, if Katherine were the sole operator, she would soon be completely impoverished. What Olivia mostly dislikes about Katherine is her silly childishness(acting inappropriately for her age), her complete frivolousness and no care for discipline. It is obvious the two of them do not get along.

This looks good to me. You still did not pm me to ask permission for a fourth character, but I know you talked to Jess, so neehehe. ;) And this one definitely adds more variety to the board.

I would like more weaknesses though, as I see "cynical," "sharp-tongued" and "sometimes overly curt" as... well, sort of the same thing. Or at least very similar. Is she afraid of something? Does something freak her out? I'd like something that can be exploited by other players or at least make her... well, weaker.

Other than that I don't see anything. She looks fine to me. Add a few more weaknesses and you'll have my approval.

 Approved. Now we'll just have to wait for Liz and see what she thinks.

:mjinga: Lukkin' good. I love!

I'll remove Oliva from NPC listing on Katherine's profile.
