Title: The Case-Book of Inspector Marie Garcelle Dargeaux

Jean-Luc Dargeaux - July 2, 2007 05:26 PM (GMT)
I have a case. I am sure it is very soon to be solved by me, because I am very smart. I have examined all the evidences just like a good Inspector should. I have thought of these things so far:
  • Item: There was a horrible murder on Kirk-street.
  • Item: The victim was poor Mr Henry Bullworth.
  • Item: Mr Bullworth was cut up terribly. All of his insides were pulled out.
  • Item: His face was also cut off and put on the Duke of Wellington.
  • Item: The evil succubus laughed and thought it was funny.
  • Item: The evil succubus was a good actress.
  • Item: Inspector Connors was put on the case.
  • Item: They hid the body after a while.
  • Item: It went to Father after they finished with it. I must examine it.
  • Item: I will have to have a strong stomach for that.
  • Item: But I am an Inspector. I must do it.
  • Item: Mr Bullworth was shot by a gun. I saw the hole. Also Inspector Connors said he was.
So I have come to these conclusions so far:
  • Conclusion: The murderer really hated Mr Bullworth.
  • Conclusion: Or he was insane. That could be it.
  • Conclusion: It was not the kind man, or the black woman.
  • Conclusion: It was done by someone that could buy a gun.
  • Conclusion: So he or she had money. Guns are hard to get. I know because I tried.
  • Conclusion: It might have been the evil succubus. She was rich.
So far that is all I have. I do not have enough facts because Father will not let me out of the house to investigate since the demon wanted me to sit on his lap. So I have only one suspect so far, which is certainly not enough suspects.
  • Suspect: Madeline Smith, an evil succubus.
Here follows an annotated police sketch of the suspect:

But I have a plan for persuading Father to let me out of the house. I will tell him I will be escorted by a deputy at all times, just to make him feel happy. I have already found my deputy. Miss Fitzgerald would not agree to be a deputy (she said that she wouldn not encourage such unseemly daydreams, which I do not think was very kind at all when this is a serious matter). So I had to get Bradley the boy from next door to be my deputy. He is eleven and was very unwilling. I told him I was his boss because I am the Inspector and he is just a deputy. He did not like that and said a girl could not be the boss but he came around when I said I would pay him two farthings per day if he would be a proper deputy. It is very unfortunate that the department must have such expenses but that is the cost of serving the public.

Miss Fitzgerald is coming to put me to bed now. I do not think it is dignified for an Inspector to be put to bed so I will have to go before she gets here. She is impeding my Investigation. I will have to see if I can think of some way to occupy her so I can continue it. For now, I must meditate on the facts I have gathered so that I can solve this crime.
