IC Information
Name:Edward Johnathan Davies

Avatar:
Adrien Brody

Occupation:
Current Owner of Davies Shipping and Trading Company

Age:
27

Gender:male

Appearance:
Edward is, to say the least, a dashing young man. His cream-like complexion contrasts upon his jet black hair, which goes a bit past his ears. He usually styles it back and out of his face so his sincere hazel eyes can be easily seen by all and most importantly, that he himself can see all that is around him. Edward, because of his somewhat athletic nature has a fairly muscular build. When it comes to personal style, Edward almost always looks particularly sharp, but he absolutely must be comfortable in what he is wearing or he just will not wear it. He has a fondness of hats and wears them wherever and whenever he can.

Personality:
Edward is a very strategic person. He likes to plan, predict what others may do, and act accordingly. He takes life like a large chess game. He is very organized. He keeps his office particularly meticulous. He is rather outgoing, making friends of anyone he possibly can. Ed is very optimistic, because he feels it keeps him in touch with his inner child. He is flirtatious, but always loyal when it comes to commitment. He has his demons, but he fights them with everything he’s got.
He is a family man. He loves his kids and family very dearly. They are his world. He always puts them first, most of the time. Edward enjoys having fun. He likes to attend social events, have a nice chat with the people waiting with him at the corner of the crosswalk. He also enjoys good company and good food, especially when combined.
All in all, he's just a great guy to be around. Sensitive, humorous, and helpful whenever it is needed.

History:
Edward was born and raised in Lindebo. He was part of a very wealthy family. The Davies family has been in the shipping and trading industry for as long as anyone can remember. Over the years, they had built a sort of empire in their field. By the time Edward was born the Davies family had what could almost be described as a small fleet of ships to their name. They were, to say the least, financially secure.
Nancy and James were very non traditional when it came to raising their son. They never hired a governess or anything of that sort. Nancy raised little Edward all on her own, even though they had the money to pay for help.
After a while, however, Nancy became incredibly ill and soon died when Edward was only seven years old.
The next few months were difficult for Edward and James. Edward was absolutely grief stricken since the two were so incredibly close. He wouldn't play, he wouldn't study, he just didn't want to do anything.
James had soon resolved that his son needed to get away from Lindebo for a while and sent him to a prestigious boarding school, where Edward spent the following nine years.
Edward was excited to start a proper education. Once he arrived at the school he became the lively lad he used to be. He was extremely studious and wanted to always be the absolute best. He enjoyed sports too and was often found at the archery range or fencing, among many other sports. Of all the sports Edward participated in, fencing was by far his favorite. He soon entered competitions and began to gain a reputation in the area.
He had soon finished secondary school and attended a nearby
University. Continuing his fencing career, he entered several national and international competions when he was off from his studies. After that, he worked alongside his father, who he would eventually take over for. Edward started working constantly and had little time to fence and eventually gave it up until recently.
During this time, however, he met a beautiful young woman by the name of Francine Granger. Completely infatuated with each other, Fran and Edward married when he was twenty two. By the age of 23, Edward was the proud father of Samantha Alice Davies. Two years later, Fran gave birth to twin boys, Jack Stewart and Thomas Patrick. Edward had never been so happy in his life. Fran, however, wasn’t.
Fran was missing that passionate romance when she and Edward had first met. So she looked for it elsewhere. Elsewhere, in this case was in the company of Edward’s assistant.
Edward found out eventually, and they both are trying their relationship. Around this time he also started drinking, because of all of the stress.
It was around this time he met a girl from the nearby orphanage, Edith. Edith walked the same way to work as Edward, but she worked at a thread factory. They talked every day and he soon became like a father to her. After this he soon stopped drinking and became the old, happy Edward. At this point, he actually considered adopting Edie but his father strongly advised against it.
By Edward’s 27th birthday, his father was near his end, and a few weeks later he died. Edward wasn’t too sad, he knew his father had lived a wonderful life. Edward also knew that if he got too sad, he’d most likely start drinking again, and there was no way he was revisiting that nightmare.

Strengths:
Strategic, athletic, intelligent, educated, good at debating, clever, rather skilled at playing piano (learned from his father)

Weaknesses:
Is very likely to catch a cold, afraid of heights
Weapons:
He fences and practices archery

Hi there, and welcome back!

First of all:
Does this mean you want me to move Edith Wood back to the lists of active characters? You only posted for her once, and after it we've not seen you in three months. I suppose you already saw the message I put up, locking the thread so that we could get on with the storyline? I can't see that I have gotten any pm's from you on the topic after that, so I was just wondering... Are you sure you have the capacity for another character?

If you are, please use the Character Template when you add an application. Or at least make it look like you used it by bolding all the titles and filling out the OOC-section at the top.

We can deal with the app in more detail after seeing to those things. He looks like an all right fella, but he needs some tweaks. I'll say right away that I'm very skeptical of these women running off from their husbands. That was not something easily done back then, and if you had kids it was basically the same as throwing yourself (and them) in the workhouse.

It would certainly be fun to have you back! I'd like to know you can post more than one post per three months before I approve a second character though, I hope you understand that.

Yeah I don't know what happened with the application format. I started on him a while ago kind of forgot about and one night while on a sugar buzz, finished. I'll work on that though.
But about Edith, is it alright if she stays inactive for a bit longer? I'm still deciding on whether or not to keep her because I'm pretty sure one character seems like enough.
I'm also sorry about disappearing this summer I was off on vacation or some church related trip almost every other week. Anyhow, I promise I will post at least once a week.

Edward Davies - September 22, 2007 04:04 AM (GMT)
Okay. Just finished all of that.

Sorry it took me so long.

School's been crazy.

Edit: Alright, I'm guessing I should roleplay as Edie for a bit.

Mjinga - September 25, 2007 11:04 PM (GMT)
Sure, if you want to, but lemme know on that for sure because I'll have to move her out of the members group again. We thought you was gone and all and so she got moved to the dead-charas cottage.

I'm looking into this fella, it'll just take me a moment to write up de critique.

Mk, and now I’ve thought of what I want to say, here it is. :)

He needs at least two paragraphs more in his personality. This is the most important section of the app, really, since it defines who he is.

QUOTE
When Edward was three years old, James was finally sick of waiting so he took out several loans that were large and particularly risky
Leaving aside where exactly a sailor learned to read and write enough to keep accounts, a sailor would not be granted large and risky loans. This is before equal housing lenders and suchlike. Since Edward himself was never poor, does it matter that his parents were poor? If that isn’t particularly important, then maybe it would be best to just make them the owners of a company to begin with. If it is, please detail a more realistic history for their rise to wealth.

QUOTE
He soon entered county wide competitions and began to gain a reputation in the area.
I don’t think they had those. Could you provide evidence that they did or remove this sentence?

Mk, and then the major problem in your history is Edward’s wife leaving with the kids for another man. It is possible for her to have had an affair, such did happen. It’s even possible for her to leave Edward—but so unusual as to throw her mental stability in doubt. This is the situation that she would have been in. She would be leaving a respected and wealthy man for his assistant, who would be an unknown and un-wealthy man. She would have a three year old with her and two boys that, in this day and age, are likely still nursing. She would not be back in prime condition after the pregnancy yet. What woman not off her rocker would consider this? As for the assistant, what man is going to take another man’s children?

And this is the situation that Edward would be in. His wife would have cuckolded him for his assistant. He would be publicly humiliated by both of them, and he would have literally had his children stolen from him by another man. He cannot marry again, because he is still legally married to his wife and cannot be divorced without her signatures on the papers. He does not love his children, because he made no effort to get them back—no man would allow his wife to take his children to be raised by another man, certainly not without a legal divorce (which I stress again was very very very unusual back then).

With this in mind, he wants to adopt another girl? It seems a leetle bit unrealistic. Perhaps you might be persuaded to alter this part of the history to reflect more Victorian values?

And also, you didn’t fill out the weaknesses section. It has to be done. :)

But he’ll be a great addition to the board once he’s been modified. Maybe I can call dibs on his first thread for my charry Pryer?

Alrighty. I agree. I'll see if I can get a bit done this Thursday. Homecoming's this week so that's going to be almost my whole weekend but I will no doubt get it done soon

Edit note: Oops forgot to log out Edith >_<

Etcetera - September 27, 2007 05:16 AM (GMT)
That's okay, take your time, and just post back here when the edits are done so we know. :)

Edward Davies - October 10, 2007 03:01 AM (GMT)
Okay, I fixed the history, added a bit more and fixed the two wives leaving part.

Edit: Sorry about that will work on the personality a bit more.

Etcetera - October 26, 2007 05:02 PM (GMT)
If you're still around, feel free to let us know when you're done working on that.

Edward Davies - November 2, 2007 09:29 PM (GMT)
Yeah, will do. My entire life is being consumed by school and my crazy microscopic attention span.

Edward Davies - January 9, 2008 11:31 PM (GMT)
Okay! Finally done!

And I'm going to try my absolute best to be active seeing as the other site I belong to hasn't been so
active.

How is it?

Mjinga - January 12, 2008 08:13 PM (GMT)
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. *huggles* We're glad you decided to come back and make us your primary board!

I think he basically seems okay, except that he doesn't have very many weaknesses of an exploitable nature. I realise that most of this is developed in RP anyway, but he really is gonna need at least one more. If he was alcoholised before, maybe that could make a good weakness: either he can't touch any drink or maybe he sometimes still has drunken binges, or sommat else about it? Just an idea. But he'd need something more in that section. :)

But other than that, lukkin' good!
