IC Information
Name: Marie Amelia Rosanna Grace

Avatar:
Asia Argento

Occupation:
Maid at the Lindeman Theatre

Age:
25

Gender:
Female

Appearance:
Slender, small and pettite Marie is is a pale young woman. She has light brown eyes pouty red lips and black wavy coal hair, she has a long nose and her face always seems as though she has a perminate scowl. Her body is curvy though it is never seen because of her occupation as a maid. When she is not cleaning Marie's clothes are common and never fancy or extravagant as she may wish them to be.

Personality:
Marie is a very opinionated young woman. She’ll speak her mind when not even asked the question, which to some is considered rude for her being a maid, and she’ll just say anything that is on her mind, Marie personally has little respect for anyone above her class stance, but she'll hold her tounge when needed. Coming from an unhealthy home Marie is skeptical of trusting people, but over the years that was tested by those who hired her as a maid. To know Marie is to take a risk, a risk of being lied to, gossiped about or have a hand slapped across your face, thats the side of her most of the time that people see, but if you do manage to get on her good side well then, you have a woman who will kill someone for you, lie for you, or anything else really, if she can get something out of it.

Marie most of the time though is a caring, outgoing and opinionated woman, she’ll try her hardest at most things till she gets them right, or till she thinks she did. She’s also very stubborn, getting it from her father, and will always believe she is right, and try and find a poor excuse to prove so. All and all Marie is a woman that is headstrong, strong willed and full of opinions.

History: Born to English parents, already with three older brothers Marie found herself soon never to be from them. She would always tag along, and even when she wasn't welcomed she'd tag along anyways like little children do. When she was in her early teens she expressed intrest in becoming wealthy, her mother said forget it and that it would never happen, for she was a miad and Marie's father was a drug dealer in opium, though it was legal. Marie was never proud of her parents and for the most part they were never proud of her. At the age of ten she started working in a lower class inn with her mother who also had an inn job at the time.

When she turned 20 she soon found herself wanting to be alone and away from her parents, her brothers had all gone from the home and her father was bed ridden for a deal gone bad and he had his legs broken. Marie wanted none of this so she left. Living with a female friend who worked as a inn maid. Marie soon found a job as that but when she was helping the young male customers in more way then one she was fired and kicked out onto the streets. Marie lived like that for a whole four years, and sadly she was forced to tramp. She made great friends through but earned a reputation as a mean and dangerous woman, one incident that caused this reputation was a young man who refused to pay. Marie managed to break his nose and stole what money he had. But soon after the tramp lifestyle wasn't for her, she couldn't take the cold night's and drunk men anymore.

So she did the next best thing, become a maid like her old mother. Marie soon left the streets and at 25 years of age she grabbed a job with the Lindeman Theatre, with the help of the Bramwell Resource Centre, though she had lived there for five months. It wasn't the best of job, but it gave her money. So she started saving and pretty soon for she was the only one who she needed to support, Marie never found herself hungry. She manages to hold a low class flat for now, and goes to the Lindeman Theatre early in the morning to work and comes home at night.

Strengths:
Stubborn: Yes that is her strongest point but it is also her weakest. Marie has found herself yelled at and even upon the floor or pushed against a wall by fellow maids or a home owner for her just speaking her mind.
Opinionated: Again a blessing and a curse, Marie seems to know how to push people's buttons and does it well, though it could cost her a cleaning job or more.
Good listener: Marie had been taught at an early age to listen to what others had to say, even if she'd never shut her mouth once they started. But as she grew older she learned and from listening she can know alot of one person.
Liar: Growing up with three brothers who always dragged her around and then lied to thier parents faces about how much trouble they never got into rubbed off on thier little sister Marie. So naturally she would bring it into her work and adult life, and she is actually pretty good at it.
Cunning/Plotter: Having always wanted to be the best and be on top, Marie has learned from the best to be cunning, and bend the truth to get what you want, when you want. Being a maid Marie has made a name for herself as a not trustworthy, backstabbing whore. Well the last part isn't true, she decided to throw that in there for good gosssip.

Weaknesses:
Temper: Marie's temper has always had the better of her. She cannot contain it well and when it is released, watch out. She'll acusse, swear, hit, anything to release the hate and anger she is feeling at that time.
Cunning/Plotter: Having always wanted to be the best and be on top, Marie has learned from the best to be cunning, and bend the truth to get what you want, when you want. Being a maid Marie has made a name for herself as a not trustworthy, backstabbing whore. But it is also a weakness if you are caught, which Marie soon found out after lying to a prefered customer while she was a tramp about her loving him, she had plotted to get into his bed and take his weath for her own. But she was soon found out after a "freind" ratted her out for a bribe and brandy.
Men: The men that know her atleast, as in the man who had his nose broken, the one she had tried to con, the ones who attacked her friends countless times. If they ever found out where Marie was now, well that would not be to good.

Weapons:
Marie has never been a woman to lash out, alright so thats a lie. She has a short temper and is not afraid to defend herself if needed. She used her fists, nails, teeth, her long legs anything really. If an object like a chair or table was not around to throw Marie would basically use her body itself to hurt others like any woman would do. But beware she can throw in some hair pulling and cat scratching. But when all else fails she always carries a small poorly crafted knife under her garments. Marie knew the chioces and where she would wind up if she ever decided to use the knife in her work as a maid, but luckly she had only used it twice as her time as a tramp. The first was a drunk man who refused to pay and started to attack her, and the second was a man that was attacking her tramp friend, Marie hung out with four of them at a time, to stay safe, they'd go off to do thier "jobs" then regroup.

Welcome, Bianca! Glad to have you here! I’m so glad you decided to pick a maid. :) We don’t have enough. (Plus I’m glad you take an interest in me chars ;) I’d be happy, as I said in the PM)

I’m not one for mincing of words, so straight in to the comments then, shall we?

Mk. Kris didn’t say she got it yet, and I didn’t either; just be sure to remember. :) If you already sent it to Kris, then fantastic! You’re all set here.

QUOTE
When she is not cleaning Marie's clothes are common and never fancy or extravagant as she may want them to be, but that will all change soon.
Hrmmm… how do you know? You can’t just say she’s poor in the app and then NPC her to wealth, you know. We donna allow that.

QUOTE
Marie is a very opinionated middle-aged woman.
Ay caramba! I’m two years away from middle-aged-ness! *sad* Oh well. :P

As a general note on the personality, I would like to see a few more facets of her. I’d ask questions but I tend to find people just answer them without putting in their own ideas, so just give me a little more on what it’s like to know her. :)

Oh, and the speaking her mind is definitely considered rude for a maid. Props for remembering!

QUOTE
Born to Italian parents Marie was barely four months old when they immigrated to Lindebo without haste.
Why hasn’t she got an Italian name then? Also, just so you know, this being an English RPG, we generally prefer English chars. Perhaps you might just say they were English, as their Italian-ness does not seem to figure much into the history.

QUOTE
Marie's father was a back alley drug dealer.
What kind of drugs? Remember that opium was legal at this time, as was cocaine.

QUOTE
When she turned 20 she soon found herself…
The children of poor people in Victorian times often worked before they were ten, and certainly were working by fifteen. How did she managed to avoid it so long? Or, if she was working, please tell us where.

QUOTE
Marie soon left the streets and at 25 years of age she grabbed a job with the Lindeman Theatre.
If I’m reading this right, she was a hooker before this time. It was terribly hard to get a respectable job after being a hooker. How did she do it? Did she have help—perhaps went through a rehabilitation centre (if you want, she could have gone through the Bramwell Resource Centre; one of my chars operates it and it is a place precisely for this sort of thing)?

QUOTE
Liar: Growing up with three brothers who always dragged her around and then lied to thier parents faces about how much trouble they never got into rubbed off on thier little sister Marie. So naturally she would bring it into her work and adult life, and she is actually pretty good at it.
That sounds like a strength. Explain how it’s a weakness?

Being a maid Marie has made a name for herself as a not trustworthy, backstabbing whore. Well the last part isn't true, she decided to throw that in there for good gosssip.
One: I thought she was a hooker. It seemed like she was from the history. Two: How is being cunning a weakness?

Then, I have three beefs with your weapons section. :) I did put a warning in the app that this always happens to women with a weapons section. :D
QUOTE
She has a short temper and is not afraid to defend herself if needed.
That is perfectly fine. Just remember that this is completely unacceptable behaviour for a woman, and if a man should happen to ever accuse her of anything, his word will most likely trump hers. That is to say, if she does defend herself, she may very well be sentenced to the gaol, or possibly an insane asylum if she’s lucky. This is just how it was back then. :)

QUOTE
She has no skill in swordmanship or anything of that sort, because her family could not afford it.
Victorian women did not learn the sword. Even if they could afford it. It was just Not Done. Ever. Women did not fence.

QUOTE
But when all else fails she always carries a small poorly crafted knife under her garments.
If a woman knifed (or shot, for that matter) someone, unless she was fabulously rich, she would certainly wind up in gaol. Without doubt. Self defence is a modern concept. The Victorian concept is: women do not defend themselves, they submit to men.

You've definitely got quite a character here; don't let the questions be overwhelming. :) Most of them are just clarifications, and I'm sure you'll have her up and running in now time!

Hey there OK I fixed the things you pointed out and replied to the PM with my e-mail in it. I hope my char's ok now?.

Helllllloooo, and welcome to the board. I will be your admin on this SPERCTACULAR site! :) That other chick is just my minion who does my bidding, so it's me you have to worry about. :P And noooow... it's MY TURN:

QUOTE
She’ll speak her mind when not even asked the question, which to some is considered rude for her being a maid, and she’ll just say anything that is on her mind
Not to some. To everyone. It's very important for women to know their place, and particularly the lower class ones. As long as you know this, her being opinionated is fine.

QUOTE
To know Marie is to take a risk, a risk of being lied to, gossiped about or have a hand slapped across your face, thats the side of her most of the time,
and
QUOTE
Marie most of the time though is a caring...
These two seem to be great contradictions. You also mention that she can do things "for you" if you get on her good side, but then say "if she can get something out of it." All in all I find the personality-section a bit confusing. Is she caring, or is she basically a b*tch? I will need to know more about her. What is important to her, what does she believe in? What makes her "tick"?

You should add to her weaknesses that she has enemies. If she really broke a man's nose and stole his money, and later conned a wealthy man, she is always at the risk of these men finding or recognizing her, and thus sending her to jail or worse. This is a great weakness!

QUOTE
Marie soon left the streets and at 25 years of age she grabbed a job with the Lindeman Theatre, with the help of the Bramwell Resource Centre
This is fine, but could be edited a tad bit. She'd have to have lived at the centre for a while and receive their help before getting a job. "Grabbing" a job would be an over-easy way to put it.

QUOTE
backstabbing whore. Well the last part isn't true, she decided to throw that in there for good gosssip.
Which part isn't true? The backstabbing? She was a whore, so it's natural that this would be part of her reputation.

QUOTE
...lied to a prefered customer while she was a tramp about her loving him, she had plotted to get into his bed and take his weath for her own. But she was soon found out after a "freind" ratted her out for a bribe and brandy.
By "getting into his bed" I assume you mean the marriage bed? She wanted him to take her as his bride? This is fine (improbable, but it could happen of course), but what happened when she was "found out"? How did she get away? Wouldn't he have her arrested?

About the weapons-part: We are very strict about women and weapons (and weapons in general for that matter). BUT you mention that she is not at all professional with the knife and that it is even poorly crafted. As long as you know (and it seems you do) that it was not normal or accepted for a woman to defend herself with violence, I personally don't mind that she has been known to do it anyway. The survival instinct is strong, and it is bound to have been so for women in Victorian times also. Be very careful with violence in the game, however. I will not tolerate any sudden "champion fighter" style posts. :P

I am also hesitant about the father's occupation. I don't really know enough about the opium trade back then, but I would have thought people who traded in opium were not dirt poor? I'll have to read up on that. Broken legs also suggests criminal activity. I'll hold off on that one for now though, because I don't have the time to check it out. Mjinga, do you know?? Anyway; it's not that important to the character - just part of her history, so we won't make a big fuss about it.

Hmm... Don't get all O_o from this long post. A couple of my points are just comments/warnings, and the others (aside from the personality-bit) are minor details. Good job, and again welcome!

Marie Grace - January 29, 2008 06:14 AM (GMT)
Alright I fixed up the things you pointed out, and also about the plot marriage thing, she never went through with it like it says because her "friend" ratted her out.

Etcetera - January 29, 2008 03:28 PM (GMT)
Um... What exactly did you fix? I see you added this
QUOTE

Men: The men that know her atleast, as in the man who had his nose broken, the one she had tried to con, the ones who attacked her friends countless times. If they ever found out where Marie was now, well that would not be to good.
which is good. Other than that I can't see my other points adressed...? Sorry if it's just me being dumb here, but would you mind showing me what you edited/how you fixed what I pointed out?

And the question with the marriage wasn't why she didn't go through with it. I understand that. I was wondering how she managed to get out of going to jail or whatever, if he found out she had conned him. He could have very bad things done to her, being a wealthy man and all. But it looks like you adress that in your new weakness-bit. She ran away before he found her, right? So that one isn't really a problem anymore.
