Title: Rose Hampton

Rose Hampton - November 10, 2006 08:47 AM (GMT)
Name: Rose Hampton

Avatar: Vanessa Anne Hudgens

Occupation: Actress

Age: 19

Gender: Female

Appearance: Rose is not tall nor average, but actually quite short. Her height hardly reaches 5'1", nestling in the small gap. Because of this she is quite petite, short, thin and dainty. She cannot handle strenuous weight or anything very physically challenging, for her small physique would most likely strain under the pressure. She looks like quite an innocent person and this is one side of her; as you will hear later on. Her dark hair is quite long and wavy, though it is usually tied up with either ribbon or string. She likes to wear comfortable, loose, tidy gowns with few patterns and flowing material. Of course she would love a nice green dress, for green is her favourite colour and the colour of her eyes. She has a small mouth, rosy cheeks, and quite large eyes which are framed by long lashes.

Personality: Rose, living up to her name, is delicate and sweet. She doesn't like take things very seriously, preferring to smile or giggle over something. However, her personality fits in a wide range of emotions. Rose is capable of being energetic, soft, loud, cheerful and sympathetic. She likes people who can vary and usually people that are intelligent and think before they speak. She doesn't talk very much at first, but as you get to know her she warms up to conversation and can be quite chatty. She is most certaintly not bold, and cannot speak up or go with a point in front of strangers. She is quite introverted at first, but as her popularity grows so does her independance. She has not one pore of jealousy in her, and shares easily with others.

History: Rose was born sometime in July, the exact date not known. Her mother passed away giving birth to her, and her father sunk into depression after her death. Rose was lonely, often starved by her uncaring father who could not rise out of his depression enough to help her. She was poor, unwanted and starving, so she took to the streets. With the help of local children she learned to act for money, and from the age of 4 she would beg on the streets. Being relatively attractive they gave it to her, who in turn shared it with the other children as thanks. When her father died, Rose was kicked out of her house and lived with the other children at the age of 8. At this time she was very good at acting, and could worm a few coins out of anyone.

She worked on the street until she was 14, when she was employed by the theatre when she attempted to salvage a few coins from one of the writers. He thought she could suit his next piece, so he took her from the street to work. She grew very well there, and under the influence of money became somewhat chubbier to fill her hollow curves. She is always on the lookout for a good, independant man, but mostly her shyness prevents her from getting close to anyone.

Strengths: She is a quick learner, with a creative mind. Years of acting has drilled passion into her, so she is very focused. She can pick up lines after a few minutes memorising, remember stage directions after one runthrough, and people's names come easily to her. She is also very generous, and would prefer to give money to street children than spend it on herself. Her kindness is also another admirable trait, as well as her wits. She may not be educated, but she has a strong sense of right and wrong as well as being an honest soul.

Weaknesses: She is not intelligent. She has never attended school, but picked up speaking from the street children. She cannot read or write, and because of that she makes mistakes on stage. She has to ask people to read scripts for her, which she finds excrutiatingly embarassing, so she has to remember quickly. She also is very introverted and cannot speak proudly or loudly in front of strangers, instead gazing bashfully at them. She has quite a few friends, but all of them unlinked. She does not have a group of friends, instead a few odd people who like her and cherish her.

Goodie-goodie. I like her!

I only have two questions: First, What kind of acting did she do on the streets? I mean, did she really need to "act" that much to get money off of people - she was poor for real, wasn't she?

Second, there were also plenty of other ways for street-children to make money back then (sweeping sidewalks, selling flowers, hailing cabs, doing deliveries, etc). Has she ever done or considered any real work, or did she get enough money just by begging?

I'm just sort of wondering. Other than that, this character is good work and will be approved soon. *nod nod*

She would be poor for real, sure, but a few tears and playing innocent. I mean, more people are likely to give to a pretty, lonely, sad little girl than a mean brat, right?

I think because she was good at acting she would get money off it alone? All the street children shared their money anyway so they all had the same, and she just went with what she did best.

Is that okay? Thanks!!!

Granted that this was right about the time of the beginning of the change, but still by 1888 (this RP is set in the late 1800s), actresses were a very disreputable lot. That is to say, no respectable man will associate with an actress, they had a reputation as loose, some even selling themselves, and just in general were not thought well of.

Street kids, especially female ones, were often taken advantage of. Even if street girls escaped being taken advantage of, they often sold themselves.

I would like you to explain how she managed to avoid the nastier sides of life in both of the major parts of her history. :) Bear in mind that I'm not requiring you to be a street slut or anything, I just would like more detail as to how she did not wind up that way.
