Title: General Rules
Description: Read'em or weep!

Posting IC:
  • No godmoding: Whatsoever. No power-playing, no autoing, no what-ever-you-wanna-call it, without permission from the other player. You will be warned and then banned.

  • Credibility: A character can be in a maximum of two threads at once. Try not to mess up the timelines; be aware of which of the two threads is before or after the other in time, and state it in the OOC forum 'Upon My Word!'. Information from 'the future' cannot be used in the earlier posts - We will be very strict about this particular thing.

The setting is in the late 1800s and we strive for historical accuracy, so please do try to keep it realistic. If you don't follow Victorian etiquette, you will be frowned upon by other characters. You should also expect consequences for your characters actions, just like in real life. If your character commits a crime in public you will have to risk the punishment. Crimes committed in secret or in the past is another matter, and will be dealt with individually.

  • Writing Style: Everyone has their unique style (thank heavens!), but we still want some uniform features to the roleplay. Please write in the third person past tense. Please refrain from making spiffy little ornaments around your text. Use quotations for dialogue, not stars or colors. And please try to follow correct English spelling. No chatspeak IC. Also; inordinately small text or strange fonts will make our visually impaired members have a hard time reading your posts. Please keep to the board standard size and font. The only exception is the forum "The Nightstand Drawer"; here, you may use whatever fonts you like as long as you provide a download link for it in this thread.

  • Post Length: We have no set minimum or maximum amount of words or lines required per post. We do hate one-liners though, so please try to at least pass a paragraph. This is not a requirement, but simply a preference, as we are well aware that quantity and quality are two different things.

  • Posting Frequency: If you are in a thread and interacting with more than one person in a specific situation, you must give all the people in your group a reasonable amount of time to reply. The staff has decided that reasonable means 24 hours. What this means is that you cannot post for your character again until all characters specifically and directly interacting with you have posted since your last post, or 24 hours have passed.

  • Mature Content: IC-posts containing explicit sexual details, gory or otherwise mature, should be posted in the passworded board ("Behind Closed Doors"). Try to tone it down on the main boards for the sake of younger readers or weak-hearted older ones.
Posting OOC:
  • Courtesy: Be polite to other members. No name-calling out of character, no disrespecting other players, no racist, sexist or other demeaning attitudes. Be civil to each other.

  • OOC comments in IC topics: Keep it short. If the OOC topic is too large to be noted IC (more than 3-4 sentences), create a topic in the "RP Discussion" forum (under Tea-Table Talk) and link between threads please. If you are moving your character from one thread to another, please OOC note it like this: (OOC: Next post in _____) And (OOC: Last post in _____)

  • Posting in Applications: Please post only in your own applications. We appreciate that sometimes a member might wish to help another person with their character's bio, but please use the PM system (either to the member or the staff) or the OOC forums for this, and keep the official applications free of comments from anyone but the staff.

  • Absence: Please post in the "Leave of Absence"-forum if you're going away for a while, or if you're quitting. If no notification has been given, characters will be labeled inactive after a period of one month with no IC- posts. Players then risk having their characters autoed. After a three month period, avatar reservations will automatically be considered invalid. When leaving your account inactive the best way of going about it is to write your character out of any active threads, so as to not leave others "hanging," and let the staff know if/when you're planning on returning.

  • Advertisements: Please note that A&A does not generally welcome advertising for other forums, except as affiliates. We henceforth make exceptions to this generality in exactly one circumstance. If you are a member in good standing (this means active and with a minimum of two characters) and you send a PM to an admin or mod with your intended post, we will allow the advert in the tea table talk forum after the staff has reviewed the post. Any persons who advertise without active member status or staff permission will receive a warning and the advert will be deleted.

  • Spamming: If you send advertisements for anything via mass or person-specific PM you will be considered to be spamming and will be warned; members who do this and are not in good standing will also be suspended for a week with email notice. Members who are in good standing and do it a second time will be suspended for a week, and third offences will prompt the staff to consider more lasting actions.
A few more things:
  • Number of Characters: You are limited to three characters, unless you have proven to be an active poster (this is judged on a case-by-case basis). If you feel you are active enough to handle a fourth character, you must PM a staffer to request permission to create another one. Conversely, if you do not keep up all your characters, you may be requested by a staffer to retire one or more. Fourth and above characters are reviewed much more strictly than the first three (we expect them to be very unique from your other characters, and fulfill a purpose).

  • Siggies: Please keep your signatures a reasonable size. We're lazy and scrolling is boring. Your signature should include a link to your character-profile, and possibly some small details that tell us something about them/you, but not much. Also try to keep anything in your signature relevant to your character and in keeping with the Victorian times of A&A. Please note that you cannot have an overall signature height exceeding 200 pixels, and images are restricted to 150 pixels high and 500 pixels wide. Thanks.

  • Tagging Threads: All threads on A&A are open to all players and all characters, with two provisos: Your character must not be in any other thread simultaneously, and you must find a plausible reason for your character to be in the thread. The staff feels that this will keep the board more open to everyone, so no one has to feel excluded or afraid to post. In other words: No [open] or [closed/reserved] tags in post-titles.

  • Have fun!!! The most important rule of them all. Well, next to the courtesy-rules, that is. Enjoy!
(Be sure to also read the rules on Characters and NPCs.)
