Title: Blood Question
Description: Serious Question
Jenko - May 19, 2007 03:26 PM (GMT)
If you were to exchange blood with a friend won't you get HIV/AIDS like that?
Or just really really sick or something
Juno - May 19, 2007 03:33 PM (GMT)
If one of you is HIV positive you could get AIDS. Don't even think about doing it yourself. Unless you've both had a blood test before hand.

What he said.
You could also get any blood transmitted disease.
Jenko - May 19, 2007 04:44 PM (GMT)
But if you mix two blood types together than you can get AIDS, whether one if you is positive or not right?
And it's not me.
Juno - May 19, 2007 04:59 PM (GMT)
Mixing two blood types can result in clumps within the blood vessel, producing a fatal result. Not sure about AIDS but either way, it's not a good idea. How big a scale of blood mixing are you talking about? Are you just talking about two people becoming blood brothers?
Syaoransbear - May 19, 2007 05:38 PM (GMT)
you can't create AIDS by simply mixing blood types .
QueenieKai - May 19, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)
I don't think it's a good idea anyhow.

what she said
also, the body rejects different blood types that isn't it's natural one... so I wouldn't do it
the.lamp - May 19, 2007 07:13 PM (GMT)
if you're going to cut you hand and mash it into someone else's cut hand, the last thing to worry about is 'creating AIDS'. As long as you aren't filthy, you probably won't have much grief because you're not going to push enough of your blood into them (or vice versa) to do anything.
If you're planning on removing your blood and injecting it into another person, make sure that your blood type isn't going to congeal and be rejected by the body.
As a rule of thumb: let doctors take care of blood infusions.
Menello - May 19, 2007 07:38 PM (GMT)
Nobody rejects my blood. Seriously. I'm A-.
Syaoransbear - May 19, 2007 08:17 PM (GMT)
I'm an O and I can only receive O blood so you are a LIARRR.
I can give to anybody though but I won't because it's all mine and I don't weigh enough.

Danielle - May 19, 2007 08:25 PM (GMT)
No one wants my blood, not even as a donation
Menello - May 19, 2007 08:26 PM (GMT)
Huh. Guess the Blood Bank lied to me then. Maybe I can... receive from anyone... Screw it.

You get AIDS by exchanging body fluids, i.e. blood :what:
Syaoransbear - May 19, 2007 10:01 PM (GMT)
only if the other person HAS AIDS.
Menello - May 19, 2007 10:46 PM (GMT)
Yeah, AIDS isn't just a magical disease that everyone has a half of. It's something that gross people have. Ew.

No, you can receive O +/- or A- I'm pretty sure, I don't even think you can get A+.
Oh, plus: "Everyone has aids! Aids! Aids! Aids!"

Wait, do you think i'm the one doing the blood thing?? Well, it's not :'(
melie - May 20, 2007 02:23 PM (GMT)
Just tell your friends or whatever NOT to do that, seriously.
I mean, what ever happened to friendship bracelets or whatever?

As A-, you can only receive from A and AB negative, but not positive. The universal recipient is AB+, the universal donor is O-.
Now you know.
But on topic...why would you just want to randomly swap blood with someone? I don't really understand.
If you do have two conflicting blood types (Such as one of you was A and one was B, which can't receive from each other at all) there is possibility of blood clotting but nothing that severe. Unless you were to just pump massive amounts of each others blood into each other, it wouldn't really do anything.
As far as the AIDS thing...AIDS just doesn't come out of nowhere because you mix two peoples blood. One of you will contract HIV/AIDS only if one of you has it. If neither of you have it, you won't get it from each other because it doesn't exist between you two.

| QUOTE (Wikipedia) |
| Therefore, a group A individual can receive blood only from individuals of groups A or O (with A being preferable), and can donate blood to individuals of groups A or AB. |
Well, you were partially more right, but also partially more wrong, unless you ment ) instead of AB. I could never remember about the +/- thing.
Edit: plus after a slight amount of more reading I'm pretty sure that a negative blood type can recieve a positive blood type if they've never come into contact with it before, but it is obviously more risky.
QueenieKai - May 20, 2007 05:59 PM (GMT)
>_> It's stupid. Just don't do it. Spit shake or something.
Jenko - May 20, 2007 10:34 PM (GMT)
I told her not to do it, she wouldn't listen, I thought she was smarter than that.
QueenieKai - May 20, 2007 10:45 PM (GMT)
Kids these days. Dumbasses. Honestly.
Juno - May 20, 2007 11:03 PM (GMT)
Isn't that just normal human reasoning though. I won't believe even for a second that you've not done something that you shouldn't on the basic of just because you are doing it nothing bad will happen.
QueenieKai - May 21, 2007 11:43 AM (GMT)
I've probably done loads of stupid things, but I wouldn't be swapping blood with anybody anytime soon.
melie - May 21, 2007 12:08 PM (GMT)
Yeah, me too like
"DUM DE DUM DUM HMM LET'S SEE DRIVING SOMEWHAT FAST OVER POTHOLES AND GRAVEL WON'T KILL ME OR MY CAR HAR HAR HAR."
PixieDust - May 23, 2007 10:09 PM (GMT)
WHY are we mixing blood? That's the real question.
Jenko - May 27, 2007 12:45 AM (GMT)
My friend wants to become blood sisters with her friend :(
QueenieKai - May 27, 2007 01:18 AM (GMT)
Stupid people. I think all that should matter is that you know that you're "soul sisters".
