Title: Scary Thoughts

Zangk - May 22, 2007 05:25 AM (GMT)
Man, many people have been talking about this of late, but it is weird thinking about it. We were born in the last bit of the first generation of games, Nintendo. Remember playing Mario when he was only a few bits? Then a game came out, it had more bits, than soon you got this cool 3d graphics (well it was cool back in the day, but when you look back it has a very low polygon count rate thing and looked very boxy). I look at the games I loved, fallout as most of you know. The first one was made in 97, the second one in 98. 10 years ago already? I personally would like to know where those years went .

Just being able to talk about this makes one feel in some respects, old (or as old as you can feel as a teen looking back on life). You see all these deprived children, the ones were that were born into a world of great graphics. They were also not born in an age were a one man team could finance his own game and make money. If he flopped, no big deal. These days you need a large team, and millions of dollars. If you flop you die, unless you have some sort of fall back (blizzard has WOW if games go bad). I can't help but to think that they are missing some very important gaming aspects in their life that they will never realise. For one thing, since the graphics were not all that good when we first played them, many of them had good game mechanics and stories to make them at least interesting (of course like many games, there were also many flops. These were not as big of a deal back then) I am sure many of these kids play rpgs like oblivion and love it, but for people our age and older had a taste of what real rpgs or games are about. Lastly, consider this, we are the first real gaming generation. We are the ones that are likely to pass on the gaming tendencies to our children.

Graphics don’t just stop there, what about movies? Remember the first fully animated movie? The earliest one I remember is Final Fantasy: Spirit within. I thought that the graphics were so good. You look at it now and laugh. They have no emotion on their face when they speak and some of the movements are a bit inhuman and stiff. What do we have now? Shrek, TMNT, and others.

Now imagine the t.v shows we watched and loved. Animaniacs, sonic the hedgehog, transformers, teenage mutant ninja turtles just to name a few. The golden age of cartoons. One almost feels like they lost some years and can't get them back when they try to explain to kids about the good quality of toons in the day.

Now imagine this forum. Will we still be here? If so, its weird thinking about it. Yes we are teens and young adults now, but in 20 years? Most of us will be close to middle age. This forum is about 2-3 years old already (2 I think is more likely). What will we be talking about? New friends? Our wives/husbands and children? Will we be talking about our jobs; how good or bad it is. Imagine if you became extremely successful and you still go into this forum. Heh, Mr. Multimillionaire on a minuscule and unprofessional forum.. For some it would be strange explaining how you found it or was told about it. We may not realise it yet, but this forum already has a lot of history behind it.

What history? Think far back (if it is possible), a user decided to sign on as another and cause havoc. He made his almost opposite (but very similar) personality. Graviton was born, internet drama was made, and people were banned. This followed by more stupid user accounts to cause trouble. What about those who just posted to see how many post counts they can get? How about the long debates on who will be the next moderator? Remember when one of use decided to screw around with the site internally? Then there were those who didn't like leadership of one that didn't ask to be a leader. They caused a rebellion and some even set up sites just to oppose this one. Reason? I would like to say testosterone. I can't find any other reason really. It was unfortunate but they said some pretty mean things about a female admin trying to moderate and doing her job. Then we had a paid site, the uphill user usage fell and we came back to this old one. Probably the best move ever made. It is not growing, but who cares? Small community is better than a large impersonal crowd of idiots. This forum had its ups and downs, but for those that were dumb left, those who decided to scrape up the remains continue to come back. Why? I would like to think because of the people here, a place to kick back and just be yourself without to many retrains. In some ways, there is at least some sort of mutual respect in this community.

Here we are today, I came back from a 17th birthday. Most of us are leaving high school and are young adults. We are the next to vote, to drink in bars, soon to be employees and may even be the ones running a business. We are the ones who will decide the route society will take. We will also be the ones who get to clean up the messes our parents left behind, not to mention that we will leave our own mess for the generation after us. We are young now, most of us have not even reached 2 decades, but that will come soon enough.

For myself, if I still look at this site, even within 10 years, I will probably stumble onto this thread then laugh at it. I would think that I haven’t even lived and I am trying to talk as if I had years upon years on my shoulders, yet I haven’t even left my parents house yet. I am sure many of us may be curious within years time and wonder what we did “back in the day”. You will probably pull up some old thread that you made and laugh at it too.

Time is a funny thing, it is a very valuable resource that is too easily squandered

I, uh, don't really remember that. :???:

Lots of times I find a penny that says made in 1996 or something so I think "awe this one is a new one" but that's over a decade ago. Where the hell did all those years go? Time went so much slower as a little kid.

I hope that the forum will keep going even though I know it won't. I don't want to come back to this forum after 5 years of not even thinking about it and read all my gay posts. Sometimes I go back to this old forum I went to, UM, and read my old posts. I was so stupid and it was only 3 years ago. I was one of those giggly girls who used the heart emoticon too much and posted pictures of myself, which doesn't make sense because I was really depressed then. In a couple years I'm going to read these posts on PC0 and I'm going to think I was such a retard, because I've looked back on every year and thought 'god damnit I was such a retard'.

QueenieKai - May 22, 2007 12:16 PM (GMT)
Don't get me reminiscencing, you'll be here reading it for HOURS. So many stuff has happened to me in the past 8-10 years...it might take 900 sheets of paper to put it all down.

Life is just crazy like that, isn't it?

Time, The most valuble resource there is.

It has a limit, cannot be refilled, restocked, or increased in any manner, yet it can be cut down very easily. Injuries, wicknesses, stress can all decrease the total ammount of time you have, sometimes abrubtly.

When you work a job, you are trading some of this 'time' for money. When you sleep or eat, you are trading it for personal health. By trying to be something you are not, you are wasting yourself away by wasting your time.

Yet so few take it this seriously.

Also, I miss those times, when the little things like graphics didn't matter. When the old games tried to make great craphics, then things were to complicated to figure out whats going on. The simpler the graphics the betetr the game looked and worked. All these young kid gamers have no respect for games now. It's all "W.O.W.!" "OMG STFU NOOBLETTE I SHOOT U IN FACE" "HA, TEA-BAGGIN YO ASS". A lot of those old games rocked because they were not built by a genuis, they were built by hard workers(Naruto reference).

Just like the 'now' American dream. People believe in happiness through wealth and materal possessions. The real american dream is happiness through hard work and effort. Only now those terms will drive any teen away.

Will this place be still kickin around in five years?

The real question is, will you still be kickin around here in five years.

Ps, Juno, love your currenet avatar.link

Stop trying to act smart or philosophical or whatever.

Zangk - May 24, 2007 02:41 AM (GMT)
I am not trying to sound smart, I just think these are good points to ponder. If you don't like it, okay, but if you reply to it, even better. These are just thoughts before leaving high school, things to think about before the "real" life begins.

There were quotation marks around "depressed".
