Title: Chilli plant

David - July 30, 2008 11:57 PM (GMT)
Has anyone ever grown their own chillis? My youngest daughter fetched one home from school, it's in a bowl and seems to be doing well on the kitchen windows sill. Will I need to put it in something bigger, how long before it's ready? Any advice welcome

And no, I haven't tried giving it a blanket  :P

Poor Cedric

H don't blame me, it's that school what started them off. All the class got one each and I think there are 26 in the class. Uh oh!

Very strange, the elf'n'safety lot weren't involved, it's a well known fact that if you handle chilis, and then put your hands on tender parts of your anatomy, it can cause irritation. :D

sue.64 - July 31, 2008 11:44 PM (GMT)
well lets recap

davids kids school has given out a least 26 chilli p[lants

1] dont let the canaries gerrum
2] keep yer hands away from yer anatomy till ya wash em

3] H . if we have a run on drunken canaries and itchy anatomies its not davids fault

It's doing rather well. The leaves are growing nicely and the stem is thickening up, it could hardly support it's self when she brought it home.
I'll take a photo over the weekend and let you see if you think it needs a bigger bowl pot
I haven't touched it's foliage yet so my sensitive bits are OK

In that case it needs to get itself a job instead of expecting others to support it!! ;) ;)

Will they be green or red chillis, David? The smaller they are, the hotter they'll be. :)

Hieronymous - August 20, 2008 08:43 PM (GMT)
How's the new triffid coming on, David?

David - August 20, 2008 08:48 PM (GMT)
It's thriving
I'll take a photo tomorrow if you like. Has anyone got a wide angle lens I can borrow?

MOLLIE - August 20, 2008 09:00 PM (GMT)
Now ya didn't answer me question in the other topic about yer chilli plant. Is the chillies big 'uns, or is the chillies lickle 'uns? If they're lickle 'uns they should be quite hot. Is they red or is they green? Answer me questions please!

David - August 20, 2008 09:04 PM (GMT)
Sorry Moll I must have missed those.
I don't know and I don't know. It was the last day of school and all the children in the class came home with one. I couldn't ask the teacher what it was and what to do with it because she was a surrounded by tearful children.

MOLLIE - August 20, 2008 09:28 PM (GMT)
Okay, well let me know when they flower, if that's the right word to use! :D

David - August 24, 2008 08:24 PM (GMT)
Will do Mollie

Here is a photo of the triffid chilli plant taken a couple of hours ago,
