LS & 3M & Gunner & Others: Any Leaf Rumours as we head into the last stretch before the amateur draft week-end in Columbus?

Have you heard anything about TO trying to move a defender or 2? If so to whom and what would be coming in return?

Are the Leafs c/o JFJ attempting to move up in the draft on the 22nd & 23rd of June?

B) B) LS - Any truth to what I am hearing about rumours that TO is trying to trade down in the draft using Ian White and/or Staffan Kronwall as trade bait??

I am also hearing that as soon as JFJ has signed Carlo Coli to a new 3 year deal, that he MAY be trade bait for a young scoring forward such as Nick Zherdev of the Columbus Blue Jackets?? :angry: :angry:

:) :) LS any rumours - Are the Leafs & GM, JFJ POSSIBLY looking to solidify their goaltending by acquiring an experienced net minder who can split the duties with Andrew Raycroft ???

The Leafs are trying to move Ian White. White is a good young player, but with Kaberle locked up long term, White just gets lost in the numbers. The Leafs would like to bring in Kronwall to play alongside Gill and develop a strong shutdown pair on the PK, which would also give Kaberle and McCabe some rest and not have to put up huge 25+ minute games which evidently hurt them late in the year. Don't know who JFJ has been talking to or who is interested.

Yes the Leafs are trying to move up in the draft Stajan and White are both being used as bait along with our 13th pick. Leafs want a top 5 pick to get either Alzner or Gagne.

Maurice doesn't want Zherdev on this team. He belives the most important thing to winning is good chemistry in the locker room. Carlo has been sought by other teams, but JFJ has not seen any package worth trading him for. He most likely is staying and they are about 600k different in contract talks right now, but the Leafs only have to qualify him to keep his rights, I think.

No truth the the Hejduk rumour. But I would like that trade...haha

Yes the Leafs are trying to acquire an experienced goalie to push Raycroft and offer some guidance. Cujo is a big possibility, but they are currently in the process of evaluating what's out there and don't rule out a 'mystery' signing out of Europe :P

Leafs feel the formula for winning is to grind your opponents down. Maurice is drawing up a very defensive system for next year and wants to fill his roster with big boys (Why White isn't part of the plan anymore). This is how they are entering July 1st and how they will map out who to take in the FA pool.

So don't expect a Gomez, Kariya or Briere signing. Look for a Bertuzzi, Smyth, Hartnell approach. Wellwood already has the little man spot locked up :D.

Another thing I can say is this will be a very intense camp come September. There are a few kids really chomping at the bit to make this team and are working really hard, so if the veterans don't come to camp prepared Maurice will not hesitate to ship them out. The only one safe is McCabe because of that NMC he has.

Hey BigM, there's a rumor around that McCabe could be moved... (not likely, but there it is)

We can all dream, can't we? His trade is supposed to make room for a "Smyth" like signing. Apparently Ek and TSN have reported it, though I didn't see the originals...

I guess it's no secret that I'd be more than a little pleased if they managed to move McCabe.

If the deal was to the Isles, not sure who we'd get in return. Perhaps a package of picks and prospects? Leave the opening for UFA's this year? Maybe if we got a 1st out of them, we could flip both 1st rounders for a top 5 pick (which apparently JFJ covets this year)

LOL, the CUP! Just a weekend bender for McCabe. I think we'd have to lose any deal for McCabe, likely taking back similar salary on an expiring contract. From a pure offense standpoint, most teams would like a McCabe....I've just seen the defensive downside too long now. He's stuck in his ways & will always be giveaway prone.

You never know...with the Isle's buying out Yashin's ridiculous contract, they may be willing to take on the salary...perhaps Satan could come over? Not a huge fan of his though. Strikes me like a very hot and cold player, but I could be wrong.
